In Pictures: Lakers rookies Bronny James, Dalton Knecht hit the weight room ahead of offseason practice
The LA Lakers didn't make major moves this offseason. Their most notable additions, besides their new coaching staff, include the draft picks of Bronny James, LeBron James' son, and Dalton Knecht, a standout scorer with top-notch shooting abilities.
On Thursday, the Lakers’ social media team shared photos of the rookies working out in the gym, well before the NBA training camps start on Oct. 1.
In these images, Bronny James and Knecht were photographed lifting weights alongside veteran teammates Austin Reaves and Jaxson Hayes.
Bronny James and the Lakers have a significant role model in LeBron James, whose exceptional work ethic has contributed to his impressive 21-season career.
Business Insider reported that LeBron James spends $1.5 million annually on maintaining his body, which he considers his most valuable asset. Additionally, he invests $500,000 each year in healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, and therapists.
Dalton Knecht impressed during the summer league, averaging 21.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game, while shooting 39.1% from beyond the arc.
South Bay Lakers coach expects Bronny James, Dalton Knecht to spend time in G-League
Dane Johnson, the Lakers’ Summer League coach and head coach for the South Bay Lakers, the Lakers’ G-League affiliate, indicated that he expects Bronny James and Dalton Knecht to spend time in the G-League for further development.
ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski previously reported that Bronny is anticipated to spend most of his time in the G-League to aid his growth.
Johnson noted that while he’s unsure of the exact duration Bronny James will spend in the G-League, he is confident that both draftees will be involved there at some point.
"I don't know about that yet, so I can't really comment on that," Johnson said (per ABC). "But I think all these guys are going to be in the G League at some point -- the draftees."
Bronny expressed his willingness to play in the G-League, stating:
"I'm just looking forward to any basketball I play, no matter what level I'm playing at. (per ABC)”
Johnson said Bronny could enjoy a long career if he builds confidence in addition to his skills.
"Shoot, he's going to have a long career," Johnson said. "This is just the beginning. We just keep instilling [confidence], keep that in their heads. So we've got a long way to go."
Bronny has signed a four-year contract with the Lakers worth $7.9 million, including a team option for the fourth season.
