Is Alex Sarr playing tonight? A look at Wizards' No. 2 pick's availability ahead of Summer League clash vs Bucks
Alex Sarr is available to play against the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday in their fifth matchup of the NBA 2K25 summer league. The game will tip off at 4:00 p.m. ET and be held at the Cox Pavilion in Las Vegas. It will broadcast on ESPN and the Monumental Sports Network.
The second overall pick of the 2024 NBA draft came with a lot of fame for Sarr. Although the Wizards beat the Kings with a final score of 73-69 in their last matchup on Thursday, Sarr made minimal contributions to the victory. He scored a meager two points and continued his shooting drought the entire game.
He went through an abysmal 1 of 6 from the field and did not attempt any shots from the three-point range.
His previous 82-80 loss against the Blazers on Tuesday followed a similar stat line. The Frenchman went 0 of 15 from the field and 0 of 7 from downtown, struggling to make an impact.
However, Alex Sarr has been good defensively. On Thursday's matchup, he collected 11 rebounds, one steal, and made one block to help his team in defensive transition. But being good at defense doesn't cut it in the league anymore, especially as the second-overall pick.
Alex Sarr's performance seem to have taken a hit
Alex Sarr has been healthy ever since getting drafted into the NBA. He has had issues with his hip in the past; he was sidelined for a few weeks with a hip strain. That has not affected his time in the NBA and he has been a healthy player for the Wizards.
However, the same cannot be said about his mental health. Sarr is evidently in a slump; he is unable to make his shots and has seemingly lost confidence in his offensive capabilities. Being chosen as the second overall pick in an NBA draft draws a lot of expectations on a young player's shoulders.
If the Frenchman is not able to pull himself back up and start scoring those buckets, he could see himself being transferred to a G-League team to get more experience or, worse, get waived off.
