Is Anthony Davis playing tonight against Clippers? Latest injury report on Lakers’ superstar ahead of matchup (April 5, 2023)

Anthony Davis’ status is questionable on Wednesday night against the LA Clippers. The LA Lakers will be playing the second night of a back-to-back when they take on their rivals. Davis hasn’t been allowed to play in consecutive games since returning from a right foot stress injury on Jan. 25.

After Tuesday's overtime win against the Utah Jazz, here’s what Davis had to say about his status:

“I haven’t played a back-to-back [set] in a long time and then I just played 42 minutes. It’s the most I’ve played since I’ve been back. We’ll all get on a phone call or something tomorrow and go from there.”

Before Davis spoke to the media, coach Darvin Ham had already told reporters that he would schedule a talk with doctors and the training staff. According to Ham, AD, LeBron James and D'Angelo Russell will all be re-evaluated.

Since Anthony Davis returned from more than a month to recover from a right foot stress fracture, the Lakers have played three back-to-back sets. AD has been forced to sit in the second leg each of those times.

The most recent was on Mar. 15 when the Lakers couldn't overcome his and LeBron James' absence and lost to the lowly Houston Rockets.

Wednesday night's game against the LA Clippers, though, will be the biggest of the season for the Lakers. At stake is the chance to grab the sixth seed and outright spot in the playoffs.

Darvin Ham, without revealing his plans for LeBron James, Anthony Davis and D’Angelo Russell’s playing status tomorrow, said the Lakers have “our short term business to take care of and our long term business to take care of.” All three will be evaluated Wednesday morning, per… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…

As much as the Lakers badly need to win tonight's game, Darvin Ham insisted the team will prioritize the health of the players. He wouldn't commit to the availability of Anthony Davis.

Anthony Davis and the LA Lakers have lost 10 straight games to the LA Clippers since 2020

The LA Lakers have not beaten the LA Clippers in nearly three years.
The LA Lakers have not beaten the LA Clippers in nearly three years.

The last time the LA Lakers tasted victory against the LA Clippers was on July 30, 2020. They narrowly beat their rivals, 103-101, behind Davis’ 34 points, eight rebounds and four assists.

Stephen A. Smith:

“There is no rivalry in LA. The Clippers have beaten the Lakers like 32 of the last 39 times. They beat them like 7 straight. It’s been complete dominance… The Clippers are mopping the streets of LA with the Lakers!”

Since then, the Clippers have owned the “Hallway Series,” winning their past 10 games against their more illustrious co-Crypto.com tenants.

This season, the Clippers have beaten them by an average of 12.3 points. More worryingly, Kawhi Leonard did not play in the second game of their head-to-head matchup.

Leonard had also just returned from a 16-month layoff when Davis' Lakers first met their rivals this season.

Things could be different on Wednesday night as the Clippers are struggling and will be without Paul George. The "Claw," however, will be ready and raring to lead his team to another season sweep of the Lakers.

If Anthony Davis isn't available, the Clippers' dominance over the Lakers could continue.
