Is Chet Holmgren playing tonight against New Orleans Pelicans? Latest on OKC Thunder star's status (Nov. 13)
The OKC Thunder will lock horns against the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday, but they'll be without their star center Chet Holmgren, who is confirmed to miss his second consecutive game. Holmgren sustained a right iliac hip fracture during OKC's 127-116 loss to the Golden State Warriors on Sunday. He was also absent from the Thunder's 134-128 victory over the LA Clippers on Monday.
This injury is expected to keep Holmgren sidelined for at least 10 weeks, posing a significant setback for the team. The Thunder have enjoyed a strong start to the season, winning nine of their first 11 games.
However, losing Holmgren, who was performing exceptionally, will undoubtedly test the Thunder's resilience and adaptability moving forward. Holmgren had been delivering strong performances, averaging 16.4 points on 50.5% shooting, including 37.8% from beyond the arc, along with 8.7 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game.
Mark Daigneault on Chet Holmgren's injury
Following the Thunder's win over the Clippers, OKC coach Mark Daigneault addressed Chet Holmgren's injury. Though Daigneault chose to keep the details of his conversation with Holmgren private, he did share that the young center is understandably disappointed after enduring his second serious injury in three years.
"He's exactly like anybody would expect," Daigneault said. "Disappointed but also smart guy that keeps things in perspective... I'll keep our conversations private but he impresses in every situation."
Meanwhile, Holmgren shared an emotional note on X (formerly Twitter) from the hospital bed following his recent injury. The Thunder center expressed his determination to recover quickly and return to help his teammates compete and win on the court.
"Most of all I’m hurt I can’t help my teammates and play for our fans and supporters for a while," Holmgren wrote. "Everyone who sticks with me and our team, along with my need for hoops, is a big part of my passion to return.
