Is Devin Vassell playing tonight against Utah Jazz? Latest on Spurs guard's availability for Emirates NBA Cup game (Nov. 26)
Ahead of tonight's Emirates NBA Cup game between the San Antonio Spurs and the Utah Jazz, Devin Vassell is listed as out. Per NBA.com's 11:30 a.m. ET injury report, which is published and updated every hour on the hour, Vassell is out with what is described as "Left Knee: Bone Bruins/Right Foot Injury Management."
Vassell won't play against Utah; however, he's expected to see action on Wednesday against the LA Lakers, per ESPN's Michael C. Wright.
Vassell missed the first nine games of the season before making his season debut on Nov. 9, against the Utah Jazz. He then appeared against the Sacramento Kings, Washington Wizards and Lakers, before missing the Spurs' last four games.
As San Antonio looks to improve in the West Group B standings in the Emirates NBA Cup's group stage, other Spurs players will have a chance to step up in Vassell's absence.
What happened to Devin Vassell? Looking at San Antonio guard's injury that has kept him sidelined for several games
Devin Vassell has been dealing with a foot injury for months. Before the start of the 2024-25 NBA season, Tim Bontemps of ESPN reported that he underwent offseason foot surgery to address a stress fracture.
In September, Bontemps added that Vassell would be out until the beginning of November at the earliest. While he has played 20+ minutes per game in all four of his appearances, it appears the team is taking a cautious approach with his recovery.
Looking at Devin Vassell's stats this season compared to last year as San Antonio guard works to get back to 100%
Vassell is averaging 16.3 points, 1.3 rebounds and 3.5 assists in 22.5 minutes per game. Additionally, he's shooting 44.9%, including 37.0% from beyond the arc.
His numbers are down from last season, where he averaged 19.5 points, 3.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game on 47.2% shooting, including 37.2% from deep.
The Spurs have a 9-8 record, good for 10th place in the stacked Western Conference. They are also in third place in West Group B of the Emirates NBA Cup.
The LA Lakers lead the group at 2-0, with the 1-1 Oklahoma City Thunder in second place. While San Antonio is also 1-1, the team has a point differential of one, whereas OKC has 10, which the league uses as a tiebreaker for NBA Cup games.
