Is Giannis Antetokounmpo playing tonight against the Phoenix Suns? | February 25th, 2023 | 2022-23 NBA Season

The Milwaukee Bucks, currently on a 13-game unbeaten streak, will possibly take on the Phoenix Suns without Giannis Antetokounmpo.

The Greek Freak had to go off after just 6 minutes in the win(128 - 99) against the Miami Heat, which was the Bucks’ first game after the All-Star break. The 28-year-old locked knees with a Miami Heat player before indicating to the bench that he needed to leave. He went straight to the locker room but returned in the fourth quarter.

After the game, head coach Mike Budenholzer confirmed that Giannis had suffered a knee injury, although he didn’t seem to know when:

"He was basically asking out. Fortunately we had the ball and I don't think we know exactly when he knocked knees. He was asking for the timeout, so we had to call the timeout... I'm pretty sure it was either on a drive or on a screen that he knocked knees with somebody and just wasn't able to return."

Budenholzer also claimed that whether Giannis plays will depend on how he feels before the game when the player will be evaluated.

Giannis Antetokounmpo is expected to return soon

This is not the only injury that Giannis Antetokounmpo is currently dealing with. He suffered a sprained wrist in the victory against the Chicago Bulls and was not expected to feature against the Heat. The wrist injury also meant that Giannis could only play for about 20 seconds in the All-Star game.

Furthermore, the player skipped the Skills challenge and later traveled to New York for additional testing on his wrist. Of course, the fact that the Greek Freak played in the All-Star game indicates that he was feeling well, and the player can be expected to return soon. The same can be said for Giannis' knee injury, as he felt fit enough to return in the fourth quarter.

The Milwaukee Bucks have a 42-17 record and are 2nd in the Eastern Conference. They are amongst a number of teams that could prove to be title contenders in the postseason. Much depends, however, on Giannis' ability to stay fit in the coming weeks. The player is putting up impressive numbers, currently averaging a double-double with 31.3 points and 12 rebounds per game.

While he might not be fully fit to start against the Phoenix Suns, Antetokounmpo can be expected to make a speedy recovery and continue his bid for the NBA MVP title.
