Is Ja Morant playing tonight against Lakers? Latest on Grizzlies superstar's status (Nov. 13)
Ja Morant will miss the Memphis Grizzlies' road game against the LA Lakers on Wednesday, marking his third consecutive absence due to a right hip injury. The Grizzlies' star point guard sustained the injury during Memphis' 131-114 victory over the Lakers on Nov. 6 at FedExForum, when he awkwardly landed after attempting an alley-oop.
Medical imaging confirmed that Morant suffered a posterior hip subluxation and several Grade 1 pelvic muscle strains. Ahead of the game against the Lakers, Memphis coach Taylor Jenkins provided an update, stating that the two-time All-Star is making good progress but will remain "week-to-week" in his recovery.
"Just still kind of offloading the hip, but (Morant) is kind of showing a lot of progress as well," Jenkins said, as quoted by the Grizzlies beat reporter Damichael Cole.
Even without Morant in their lineup, Memphis dominated their last two games with decisive victories. Taylor Jenkins team recorded a 128-1004 win over the Washington Wizards on Nov. 8 before thrashing the Portland Trail Blazers 134-89 on Nov. 10.
The Grizzlies currently hold a 7-4 record, placing them sixth in the Western Conference standings, just ahead of the Lakers.
Ja Morant doesn't like the Lakers
Following the Memphis Grizzlies' blowout win over the Lakers earlier this season, Ja Morant openly admitted his dislike for the Purple and Gold. He referenced the Lakers' elimination of the Grizzlies from the 2022-23 playoffs, expressing that he still has unfinished business with LeBron James and Co.
“I don’t like ‘em. They knocked me out the playoffs," Morant said. "And then last year we had a game and they came in here and popped it on our home floor when I was in street clothes. I wasn’t tonight."
