Is Jayson Tatum playing tonight against Hawks? Latest on Celtics superstar's status explored for Emirates NBA Cup game (Nov. 12)
Jayson Tatum is listed as "questionable" for the Boston Celtics' NBA Cup game against the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday, as he nurses a left ankle sprain that could sideline him from the in-season tournament matchup. The five-time All-Star sustained the injury during Boston's 113-107 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks at Fiserv Forum on Sunday.
Tatum gave Celtics fans a scare when he rolled his ankle while landing awkwardly on Giannis Antetokounmpo's foot following a 3-point attempt from the corner, appearing visibly in pain. The referee did not call what seemed to be a landing zone foul on the Bucks star, which left Tatum frustrated, as he voiced his discontent with the officials post-game.
"It's a tough situation. But certain calls I feel like (referees) can't miss," said Tatum."Your job is to protect the guys on the court, protect the shooter. That's something I could've been out for six weeks... for it to be a no-call... that s**t is frustrating.
Despite the injury, Tatum played 40 minutes against Milwaukee, finishing with a strong performance of 31 points on 7 of 21 shooting, including 4 of 12 from beyond the arc, while also grabbing 12 rebounds and dishing out six assists.
Jayson Tatum off to a flying start
Jayson Tatum has enjoyed an impressive start to the season, emerging as one of the early frontrunners for the MVP award. His stellar performances have been a driving force behind the Boston Celtics’ 9-2 record, placing them second in the Eastern Conference, just behind the unbeaten Cleveland Cavaliers.
Currently ranked third in the league in both scoring and 3-pointers made (47), Tatum is averaging 30.5 points per game on 46.5% shooting, including a 36.7% accuracy from beyond the arc. The star forward is also contributing 7.6 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 1.6 steals per game, solidifying his impact on both ends of the floor.
