Is Joel Embiid playing tonight against LA Clippers? Latest on Philadelphia 76ers superstar's availability (Nov. 24)
Joel Embiid will miss the Philadelphia 76ers' matchup against the LA Clippers on Sunday, marking his second consecutive absence. The one-time league MVP is sidelined due to swelling in his left knee. Ahead of the Sixers' 113-98 victory over the Brooklyn Nets in an NBA Cup game on Friday, franchise reporter Kyle Neubeck provided an update on Embiid’s status.
"Joel Embiid is managing swelling in his left knee," Neubeck tweeted. "In consultation with the team’s medical staff, Embiid missed tonight’s game and will miss Sunday’s game. He is receiving treatment and further updates on his status will be provided early next week."
Joel Embiid last appeared in the Philadelphia 76ers' 117-111 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday. The 7-foot center delivered his best performance of the season, scoring 35 points on 10 of 21 shooting, including 1 of 5 from 3-point range. He was a perfect 14 of 14 from the free-throw line and added 11 rebounds, two assists, one steal and a block.
The seven-time All-Star has struggled with availability this season, appearing in just four of the Sixers’ 15 games. He missed nine consecutive games at the start of the season due to left knee injury management and a three-game suspension.
Philadelphia has been struggling significantly, with Embiid’s absence and inconsistent performances contributing to their woes. Under Nick Nurse, the team currently sits 14th in the Eastern Conference standings with a disappointing 3-12 record.
Through four games, Embiid is averaging 19.8 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game while shooting 37.9% from the field, including a low 16.7% from beyond the arc.
