Is Joel Embiid playing tonight against Nuggets? Latest injury update on 76ers’ star ahead of matchup (March 27, 2023)

Joel Embiid has been playing through the tightness in his right calf over the past three games. He started to experience discomfort in the Philadelphia 76ers’ double-overtime loss to the Chicago Bulls last Mar. 20. In the following game, in a rematch with the Bulls, he played just 16 minutes, partly because of Philly’s blowout victory.

“The Process” has been ruled questionable by the Sixers in his last three games, but has managed to still help his team. He has the same designation when Philadelphia will take on NBA MVP Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets.

Joel Embiid (right calf tightness) and James Harden (left Achilles soreness) both questionable for tomorrow vs. Nuggets.

After the Sixers lost 125-105 to the Phoenix Suns on Saturday, Philly head coach Doc Rivers wouldn’t give the media Embiid’s status for tonight. Embiid, though, should be raring to play if he’s medically cleared simply because of the mouthwatering duel against “The Joker.”

Joel Embiid has overtaken Nikola Jokic in the latest MVP rankings. Embiid’s performance tonight, if he plays, could swing voters to his side and win the award he lost to Jokic over the past two years.

In the Philadelphia 76ers’ first meeting against the Denver Nuggets last Jan. 28. Embiid outplayed Jokic in Philly. “The Process” finished the night with a game-high 47 points, 18 rebounds, five assists, three steals and two blocks. He grabbed a stranglehold on the game and declared that he was the best player on both ends of the floor.

If he can replicate that dominance tonight against Nikola Jokic, the MVP race could be over.

What is Joel Embiid’s status tonight against the Denver Nuggets?

Joel Embiid has been ruled questionable for their marquee matchup against the Denver Nuggets. A sore right calf has kept him on the injury report for the past three games.

The Philadelphia 76ers are 1-2 since he felt discomfort due to the tightness. He is averaging 28.7 points, 8.7 rebounds and 6.3 assists during that stretch. Embiid is also hitting 53.1% of his shots and 86.5% of his free throws.

Whether he’s still bothered by the tightness remains to be seen. Philadelphia’s training staff will be keeping a close watch over him during this morning’s shootaround and in the pregame warmups.

What is Joel Embiid’s impact on the Philadelphia 76ers?

Joel Embiid is the centerpiece of everything the Philadelphia 76ers run on both ends of the floor. Philly’s game plan on offense and defense will be significantly different if the six-time NBA All-Star is unavailable.

“The Process” is likely going to win the scoring title for the second straight season. He averaged 30.6 PPG last year and incredibly topped it with 33.3 PPG this season. Embiid’s dominance shines wherever the game goes as he also contributes 10.2 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.7 blocks.

"I’m not a two-time MVP, I’ve never made first team All-NBA, I’ve never won anything. So why is there pressure on me to do something when there are guys that have won two MVPs, a bunch of MVPs and haven’t done anything either?"

The Philadelphia 76ers are legitimate title contenders because of their ultra-talented big man.
