Is Steph Curry playing tonight against Hawks? Latest injury update on Warriors' star ahead of matchup (17th March 2023)
Steph Curry dropped 50 points on a 20-28 efficiency against the LA Clippers on Wednesday night. Surprisingly, the Golden State Warriors have ruled him questionable for their matchup against the Atlanta Hawks tonight due to a sore left thumb.
If Curry sustained the injury versus the Clippers, he certainly did not show any hint of it during the game. Aside from his 50-point explosion, he also grabbed two rebounds, dished out six assists and came up with two steals.
The injury must have been significant enough that the Golden State Warriors had to limit him during Thursday's practice. Golden State’s medical staff will be keeping a close eye on him during this morning’s shootaround.
The injury is the latest that Steph Curry has had to deal with this season. Curry has played just 44 of the Warriors’ 70 games due to a slew of injuries. He had a shoulder injury in December against the Indiana Pacers, which forced him to sit out for 13 games.
The two-time NBA MVP also injured his leg/shin on February 4 versus the Dallas Mavericks. Golden State kept him sidelined for 11 games before returning against the LA Lakers on March 5.
Hopefully, the defending champs are just being extra cautious with the superstar point guard.
What is Steph Curry’s status tonight against the Atlanta Hawks?
Steph Curry has been officially ruled questionable by the Golden State Warriors. The team will have a clearer idea of his status after this morning’s shootaround and during pregame warmups. It may likely be a game-time decision for him.
When will Steph Curry return?
The worrying thing about Steph Curry’s injury was the Golden State Warriors' need to limit him in last Thursday’s practice. They’ve been super careful when the NBA’s greatest shooter is a little banged up.
However, if there’s nothing more to it than just plain soreness, he could eventually suit up for the defending champs tonight. Steve Kerr said that he expected Curry to play, but will defer to the medical staff for the final decision.
Curry will definitely push to play if there’s nothing to his thumb other than pure soreness. The Bay Area team’s injury report is a long one. They don’t have the suspended Draymond Green, who got his 16th technical versus the Clippers. It merited an automatic one-game suspension, which he will serve tonight.
Golden State will also be without Andre Iguodala, who had surgery on his left wrist. Ditto for Andrew Wiggins, who has been dealing with a personal matter for more than a month already.
The absences are very unfortunate and could be critical as the Warriors are trying to snap a nine-game road losing streak. Golden State is in sixth place in the Western Conference with a 36-34 record, but they’re just 2.5 games ahead of the Utah Jazz (33-36), who are in the 11th spot.
The Golden State Warriors will be hard-pressed to win tonight’s matchup against a near full-strength Atlanta Hawks, particularly if Curry is unavailable.
