"It was electric"- VP Kamala Harris relives legendary 'We Believe' Warriors era with Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson

On Monday morning, Vice President Kamala Harris joined Stephen Jackson and Matt Barnes on their "All the Smoke" podcast. Aside from political conversation, she opened up about her NBA fandom and supporting an iconic team.

One of the first things Jackson brought up was Harris being in the building to see the "We Believe" Golden State Warriors in action. She started by saying that every era of the franchise has been great, but that one in particular was special.

"[2:20] That was a very special time," Harris said. "It was electric. You guys remember, it was electric."

The Warriors squad that Kamala Harris is talking about is one of the biggest underdogs in NBA history. Jackson and Barnes were two of the many members of the ragtag squad.

This team finished 42-40 in the regular season, just barely sneaking into the playoffs as the eighth seed. However, they'd go on to shock the world by being one of the few teams to upset the No. 1 seed in round one.

The Warriors found themselves facing off against league MVP Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks. Fresh off making the finals the year before, they found themselves on the wrong end of a historic upset.

Unfortunately for this Golden State squad, their run came to an end in round two after being eliminated by the Utah Jazz in five games.

Kamala Harris got strong endorsement from Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry

Since her days in the crowd rooting for the "We Believe" Warriors, Kamala Harris has gone on to have a long and successful career in politics. As he continues her presidential campaign, her ties to the franchise remain strong.

In regards to this current era of the Warriors, they've never been shy about letting their voices be heard in terms of world topics. Head coach Steve Kerr is a driving voice in this as an avid advocate for gun reform in the United States.

Earlier this summer, Steph Curry also joined the fold of people within the Warriors to speak out on major topics in the country. Fresh off winning his first Olympic gold medal, he endorsed Kamala Harris in the 2024 election.

"That's why I believe Kamala as president would bring that unity back," Curry said. "And continue to move our country forward."

Leading up to Team USA's dominant run in the Summer Games, Kerr also allowed Harris to be a special guest at training camp. In her time there, she had a chance to speak with some of the NBA's top talents.

Curry is one of numerous people in and around the NBA to show support for Harris. Another notable name is Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban.
