"It's crazy when the MVP only has 8 points" - Jordan Poole hails Warriors' ability to win despite an off-day from Steph Curry
Steph Curry must be playing for a really good Golden State Warriors team. The two-time NBA MVP produced his lowest scoring game of the season and yet the Warriors managed to roll to an easy 122-109 victory against the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday night. Curry scored eight points on three-of-seven field goal shooting, but had eight assists as the Warriors won their third straight game while playing in front of their home fans.
Not only did Steph Curry tally only his second single-digit scoring game of the season, but he also had only seven field-goal attempts, which marks the fewest attempts he has made in any of the 62 Warriors' games he has played this season.
And yet, despite the low productivity from Curry, the Dubs were able to tie their two-game season-series against Milwaukee. Jordan Poole, who finished with 30 points in the contest, put things in proper perspective with regard to Curry's contribution and the Warriors stepping up against the visitors. Poole said:
"It’s crazy when the MVP only has 8 points and we still win against a really, really good team."
Golden State Warriors start Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Jordan Poole for the first time together
The Warriors made an interesting starting lineup choice against the Milwaukee Bucks. They brought in Jordan Poole for Moses Moody, who started the last three games for the Dubs. Poole playing alongside Steph Curry and Klay Thompson meant that it was the first time the trio started together this season alongside Andrew Wiggins and Kevon Looney.
The move paid rich dividends as Thompson went on to produce his highest scoring game of the season with a 38-point outing on 15-of-24 (62.5%) field-goal shooting while Poole stacked up 30 points on 9-of-16 (56.3%) shooting from the floor. Speaking during a post-game media interaction, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr explained his rationale for starting Poole with the Splash Brothers:
"Well, those three have been playing really well. But also, I felt like [Jrew] Holiday would be all over Steph and that they would double quite a bit and blitz. We just felt like rather than going with Moses, who has been starting the last few games, just getting Jordan out there as a secondary playmaker, we would have some openings."
Kerr added:
"It worked out, but it worked out because Jordan played a great game. He was patient. He had only one turnover. He has been so much better defensively in the last couple of games. Staying in the fight, staying in the game, getting some rebounds - he had six boards tonight. We outrebounded them for the game by quite a bit. if Jordan can play both ends like that, it makes our offensive attack that much better."
