"It used to turn me on" - Celtics star Jrue Holiday leaves Paul George in stitches with hilarious high school story
Jrue Holiday, point guard for the Boston Celtics, showed his passion for defense during his appearance on the "Podcast P with Paul George" show Monday. Holiday has built a reputation as one of the best perimeter defenders in the NBA. The six-time All-Defensive player revealed it started when he was in high school.
"We used to smack teams, we pressed 'em full court the whole game," Holiday said. "I think we beat a team 110-12.
"You would take their heart and you would see their heart being taken and it was like a good feeling, as bad as it sounds.
George, the host and current 76ers forward, teased the defensive guard about how he was one of the on-court bullies because of their defense. Holiday agreed and said his high school team talked trash to their opponents while schooling them on defense.
The 6-foot-4 guard claimed that one of his favorite memories is playing high school basketball.
"Stuff like that, this [is] gonna sound crazy as hell. It used to turn me on, boy. That type of joy that you get from playing defense people don't really get, You can get paid playing defense."
George's co-host, Jackie Long, asked Holiday which side of the floor he liked, defense or offense. Despite being an excellent defender, the two-time champion said he likes offense as he's "still a bucket."

Holiday reflects on playing for Pelicans with Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins
Jrue Holiday played with the New Orleans Pelicans for seven years before becoming a key member on championship teams for the Bucks and Celtics. He had the opportunity to play with Davis and DeMarcus Cousins during the 2017–18 campaign.
One of the most distinctive groups he's ever been a part of, Holiday said he hoped the Pelicans had held that team together.
"That was one of the easiest basketball 'cause Boog (Cousins) was a point guard, he's just a 7-foot point guard. When he gets upset, he can take over a game," Holiday said. "And we see how AD played. AD just be AD... Rondo was the coach. That was some of the most amazing stuff I'd seen out of a team."
Unfortunately, Cousins injured his Achilles during the season and was never the same player. It was the start of a rebuild for the Pelicans as they traded players, including their star frontcourt duo.
