Ja Morant reacts to Allen Iverson's shout-out to Steph Curry's father "OG Sniper" Dell Curry
Memphis Grizzlies star point guard Ja Morant reacted to Philadelphia 76ers legend Allen Iverson's latest Instagram post shouting out ex-NBA sharpshooter Dell Curry. The two-time All-Star gave a brief one-emoji response concurring with Iverson's sentiment.
Iverson has been a big supporter of Morant over the years, including endorsing the high-flying guard for MVP in 2022. However, on Thursday, the Hall of Famer saluted Curry, father of Morant's rival, Golden State Warriors superstar point guard Steph Curry.
Iverson posted a photo on Instagram of himself celebrating during a game, with the elder Curry walking in the background. In his caption, he acknowledged his former adversary's 3-point shooting prowess.
"The original 'OG Sniper' in the cut. #lovemylife," Iverson wrote.
Morant commented a speaking head emoji in the post's comments section before sharing it to his Instagram stories.
"🗣️," Morant commented.
Dell Curry played 16 seasons for five franchises from 1986 to 2002. Over 1,083 career outings, he shot 40.2% from long range on 2.9 attempts per game, earning the 1994 NBA Sixth Man of the Year award.
While Curry has been outshone by his son, who is widely considered the league's all-time greatest shooter, he remains one of the 1990s' top snipers.
Allen Iverson on similarities between himself and Ja Morant
During a 2022 interview as an ambassador for PointsBet, Allen Iverson touched on Ja Morant being likened to him.
The 2001 MVP agreed with the comparison to an extent, highlighting Morant's fearlessness and athleticism at the point guard position.
"The eye test says, yeah, it's Ja," Iverson said. "And 99% of the people I think that I've had a conversation with, that I've heard on social media on everything, is me and him being compared.
"The attitude, the, 'If it's me against you, it's me.' The way his teammates feel about him ... 'We got him, we can beat anybody.' ... The similarities? I was able to jump like that."
However, Iverson noted that despite their similarities, Morant has a size advantage over him and a different jump shooting form and finishing tactics.
"But he's 6-foot-3," Iverson said. "Our style, when you look at it, his jumper doesn't look like mine. I was never good with my left hand, but you can see the aggressiveness going to the basket and the way he controls the game. He's the guy on the top of the scouting report in the game. I see those similarities."
Through 14 contests this season, Morant is averaging 21.7 points, 4.4 rebounds, 8.5 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.4 3-pointers per game, shooting 45.7%.
