Ja Morant reserves 4-word praise for LSU star's spectacular game
Memphis Grizzlies superstar Ja Morant has been keeping tabs on women's college basketball. Morant praised LSU star Mikaylah Williams after her spectacular performance in the 91-64 win over Seton Hall on Tuesday night in Connecticut.
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Morant reacted after Williams dropped 22 points, five rebounds and as many assists. She provided the spark for the Tigers with her 3-point shooting and playmaking. She limited her turnovers to just two as LSU improved to 13-0 on the season.
"Mikaylah Williams!!! da goods," Morant tweeted.
Ja Morant has been watching women's college basketball in his free time, frequently tweeting about the sport's biggest stars. Morant gave a shoutout to Notre Dame duo Hannah Hidalgo and Olivia Miles.
Mikaylah Williams appreciated the praise from the Memphis Grizzlies superstar, claiming that it's in the "blood." Williams and Morant both wear the No. 12 jersey, so it could be a factor.
"It's in the 12 blood," Williams responded.
Williams is in her second season with the LSU Tigers, coming off a rookie campaign where she averaged 14.5 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.2 steals per game. She shot 47.1% from the field, including an impressive 38.0% clip from threes.
In her first 12 games this season, the 19-year-old guard is averaging 15.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.9 steals. Coach Kim Mulkey had nothing but praise for Williams' hard work and confidence.
"She wants to be really good," Mulkey said, according to LSU Reveille. "She works hard, she works on her game. She's a confident player."
Meanwhile, 2025 WNBA draft prospect Aneesah Morrow had another double-double for the LSU Tigers. She put up 24 points and 19 rebounds, while Flau'jae Johnson had 17 points, five rebounds and three assists. Kailyn Gilbert added 14 points off the bench.
Brandon Clarke dismisses Ja Morant's claim about not wanting to dunk
Ja Morant shocked the NBA world a couple of weeks ago when he claimed that he won't no longer dunk the basketball. Morant wants to avoid further injuries and would love to stay on the court.
However, the Memphis Grizzlies superstar went back on his word days later with a ridiculous double pump reverse dunk against the Boston Celtics. Teammate Brandon Clarke told Damichael Cole of the Memphis Commercial Appeal that Morant was joking. Clarke, though, clarified that the athletic guard will look to lessen hard fouls and stress on his body.
"I don't think that he's serious," Clarke said. "I just don't think that he's going to dunk as many on people because that's when it's a risk of getting fouled hard or getting hurt."
Morant dealt with a shoulder injury last season, missing the rest of the campaign. He also had a minor hip injury earlier this season, so it's all about precaution for the high-flyer.
