Ja Morant drops a game-high 25 points in loss against Boston Celtics
Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies incurred their seventh loss in 10 games following their 119-109 defeat against the Boston Celtics on Sunday at TD Garden. Beating the Celtics on the road is an uphill task, but they were shorthanded with Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart on the sidelines.
The Grizzlies had a two-point advantage by the end of the first quarter, but they couldn't hold onto it for long. They fell behind by 13 entering the halftime break. Memphis attempted a valiant comeback, outscoring their opponents 33-21 in the third quarter and cutting their 13-point deficit to one.
However, Al Horford and Derrick White torched the Grizzlies in the final 12 minutes, combining for 21 points and shooting 6-of-10 from the field, including 5-of-7 from the 3-point line. The Celtics held a 37-28 advantage to seal the 10-point win.
Ja Morant put up a solid performance and outplayed his MVP counterpart, Jayson Tatum. Morant put up 25, six and seven, shooting 50.0% from the field, while Tatum had 16 points, seven rebounds, two steals and two blocks on 3-of-16 shooting.
The Grizzlies' record on the road has dropped to 11-17. Memphis has struggled to play with poise in crunch situations. It doesn't seem alarming as of now, but it wouldn't be ideal in a playoff setting if they have to play rival contenders on the road.
