Ja Morant update: Shams Charania reveals Memphis Grizzlies veteran pushed for better discipline in wake of gun incident

Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies are in a bit of trouble right now after the offseason charges that were recently brought to the spotlight. Additionally, Morant had an incident where he showed a firearm on his Instagram live, which resulted in him getting suspended indefinitely.

Shams Charania of The Athletic reported that the team conducted a player-only meeting. There, it was reported that Steven Adams demanded better discipline for the team. No names were dropped, but there was speculation that it was directed at their star point guard.

"The NBA's investigation is ongoing, and there's a lot of questions that they need answered," Charania said. "There was a players-only meeting recently. Where Steven Adams, their veteran center, he spoke out about how the team needs to show better discipline on the road, how they need to stay away from going out when they're on the road."

"Those in the room, when Steven Adams spoke out, they knew exactly who he was directing this to. It was no one other than Ja Morant. Clearly, Ja Morant still went out in the early hours of Saturday that video was posted with the gun."

Morant has been under fire by most people recently for his off-court antics. The first was the charges about what he did in the offseason, where he assaulted a teenager. The second was when he allegedly punched a mall employee, which also happened during the offseason.

The most recent case of the heavily involved Grizzlies star was when he showed a firearm in his most recent IG live. His accounts on Twitter and Instagram have since been deactivated after the issues emerged. It was also reported that he's under investigation for his actions, which led to his eventual suspension.

There's no denying the fact that Ja Morant is one of the best stars in the league right now. His ability to take the ball through hoops in different ways has helped define his young career. However, the two-time All-Star's team could suffer due to his conduct off the court.

The Grizzlies are second in the Western Conference, which is a great position to be in as they eye the postseason. However, there's a chance that their hard work could be put to waste as they grapple with off-court issues.

Memphis has a promising young squad that could be a threat in the the West in the coming years. For them to be taken seriously by the league, they will have to put their focus on what's at stake ... the Grizzlies' future.
