Jared McCain Stats Tonight: How did the 76ers rookie fare against LA Clippers? (Nov. 24)
Jared McCain and the Philadelphia 76ers hosted the LA Clippers on Sunday. The rookie had five points and three assists in the first quarter to help carry his team. Without Joel Embiid and Paul George, McCain had another prominent role on offense.
The former Duke star didn’t start the second quarter but came in with 6:45 remaining to take out the veteran Eric Gordon. McCain went 0-for-3 but had a nifty assist to Ricky Council. Philadelphia trailed 62-50 at halftime.
Jared McCain missed a couple of shots to start the third period. He got himself going after trips to the free throw line where he went 4-for-4. McCain buried a 25-footer off a KJ Martin assist as LA held the lead 97-72.
McCain scored six points in the fourth quarter as the Philadelphia 76ers desperately tried to rally for a win. The LA Clippers defense held firm as they limited the rookie and All-Star guard Tyrese Maxey. Sixers coach Nick Nurse waved the white flag when he took out McCain with 5:31 left in the game and LA leading 114-85.
Among the starters, McCain had the best plus/minus rating. Despite a rough-shooting night, he was -8 in the game.
Jared McCain ends streak of at least 20 points
Jared McCain's streak of seven straight games with at least 20 points ended on Sunday. Before the 125-99 loss to the LA Clippers, the last time he failed to reach that mark was on Nov. 8 against the LA Lakers. He tallied 18 points on 6-for-17 shooting, including 4-for-9 from deep.
Against the Clippers, he had multiple opportunities to surge past 20 points. The rookie missed a handful of wide-open jumpers that could have pushed his total and helped the 76ers.
McCain can try to build another streak of good scoring games starting Wednesday when the 76ers host the Houston Rockets.
