Jason Kidd not impressed with Dallas Mavericks' defense following embarrassing loss to Trail Blazers
The Dallas Mavericks took a humiliating loss to the Portland Trail Blazers 136-119. Mavericks coach Jason Kidd was disappointed in how his team performed on Saturday night. Kidd had no complaints about what the Mavs did on offense. He just thought his team had a lackluster defense, which led to their inevitable demise.
"We made shots," Kidd said. "It wasn't so much our offense, it was our defense. You know we didn't participate tonight. We gotta do a little bit better. Dame is going to the line 10 times and he had 36 points so we just gotta do a better job."
While Portland's star was shining bright, the Dallas Mavericks' golden boy was nowhere to be found. Luka Doncic managed to get a double-double but it wasn't exactly the prettiest. Doncic had 15 points, 10 assists, and 6 rebounds. On paper, it didn't look too bad, but he was missing a lot of shots. He shot 0% from three and only 36.8% from the field. It was an off night from Luka "Magic".
Dallas Mavericks need to get Luka Doncic some help
The Dallas Mavericks currently own one of the best players on the planet at the moment. Luka Doncic is having a historic season and the Mavs might be wasting this opportunity. Without question, Doncic is doing everything he can to carry the Mavs heading into the playoffs. However, the Slovenian superstar can only do so much, especially with the team's current roster.
Looking at the Mavericks right now, they're one of the top teams in the West because of Doncic. Luka "Magic" is currently averaging 33.8 points, 8.9 rebounds, 8.8 assists, and 1.6 steals. None of the other Mavs players are averaging at least 20 points per game. In fact, Doncic is also averaging more rebounds compared to the team's big men.
Aside from Spencer Dinwiddie, no other Mavericks player is averaging at least five assists per game. There is clearly a lack of talent on the squad and the organization needs to do something about it as soon as possible. The good news is, Luka is still a young player and hasn't even entered his prime yet. But Dallas needs to act fast before they end up wasting his talents in the long run.
