Jermaine Dupri throws shade at Steph Curry for disapproving Kendrick Lamar's Drake diss 'Not Like Us': "It was very ironic"
Following USA Basketball's victory over Serbia, Warriors' Steph Curry was seen displeased by Kendrick Lamar's 'Not Liks Us' being played in the arena. Curry's reaction to the song sparked a strong reaction from rapper Jermaine Dupri.
The song has garnered a positive reception from many hip-hop and music fans in general for its memorable lyrics and electric production. Aside from the construction of the song, it was one of the most popular diss tracks to come out of Lamar's feud with Canadian rapper Drake.
Dupri shared a video of himself on Instagram where he found the current state of rap to be disappointing in its focus on numbers over cultural impact. He later backed up his comments by reacting to the viral clip involving the Warriors star.
"I just saw Steph's reaction to the Kendrick record and I thought it was very ironic," Dupri said, "because what he is feeling is a record impacting the streets and this new generation is not used to that. I'm sure many of ya'll don't understand what I'm saying, so let me know your thoughts!"
Steph Curry looked to be exhausted from constantly hearing the song as it has dominated radio stations, music charts, etc. Meanwhile, LeBron James hilariously responded by showing appreciation for the diss track.
Regardless of Curry's viral reaction, rappers like Jermaine Dupri are considered to be one of the prominent figures in his music genre. The Kendrick Lamar track is one that he closely connects to due to what it means for hip-hop and the rap culture. It is a song that he argued is one that rarely gets made in today's age.
Steph Curry's reaction to Kendrick Lamar's 'Not Like Us' gets defended by former Warriors teammate
While some may not be too fond of what Steph Curry thinks about the popular 'Not Like Us' track, his former Warriors teammate Kevin Durant felt differently. Durant went on Instagram to defend Curry for simply having a different preference in music.
"Maybe bro just want to hear another song," Durant posted.
Kevin Durant is also known to be an avid fan of the hip-hop genre as he has been seen alongside 'Antidote' rapper Travis Scott and 'Woah' rapper Lil Baby. Aside from his music preferences, Durant is also one who doesn't shy away from sharing his opinions on social media, regardless of how others would react to them.
When it comes to one's music's taste, the Warriors guard also shared some of his favorite tracks to listen to in a playlist he put up on his Instagram stories back on Feb. 6. Included in the playlist were Trip Lee and Hulvey's 'Stand', along with Drake and J.Cole's 'First Person Shooter'.
Following Jermaine Dupri's comments involving Steph Curry, the four-time NBA Champion is yet to respond.
