Jimmy Butler to Lakers? Insider predicts haul in potential trade for Heat superstar
The LA Lakers have been linked to Jimmy Butler amid the increasing speculation about the Miami Heat superstar's future in South Beach. The six-time All-Star is reportedly heading toward the end of his tenure with the franchise he led to NBA finals appearances in 2020 and 2023.
Lakers insider Jovan Buha 'assumed' that Rob Pelinka and Co. may have 'kicked the tires' on a potential deal.
"I'd assume that the Lakers kicked the tires on that," Buha said on his podcast, 'Buha's block' on Wednesday. "And at least gauged what the potential cost would be for Jimmy Butler. Probably would be a first round pick or 2."
The Lakers have two first-round picks to trade (2027 and 2029). They also have the salary to match Butler's $48.7 million deal. Buha believes the Lakers could be open to trading their remaining first-round picks for a move like that if they are all in on going on a big-three model.
However, it could be a reach for LA, considering Jimmy Butler potentially has a strong market. Their rivals, the Golden State Warriors, are among the rumored suitors. The Warriors need a star more than anyone, with Steph Curry being their only bonafide All-Star.
