Jimmy Butler lists Michael Jordan & 3 former teammates in his dream 'Starting 5' cast - "Mike's always got something"
Miami Heat superstar forward Jimmy Butler hit the red carpet Monday to promote Netflix's upcoming NBA docuseries "Starting 5." During the event, Butler was asked to name his "dream cast" of five past or present players for the series. Among his choices were Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan and three former teammates.
Butler is one of five current big-name players featured in "Starting 5," along with LeBron James, Jayson Tatum, Anthony Edwards and Domantas Sabonis. The series will provide fans with a behind-the-scenes look at each player on and off the court during the 2023-24 NBA season.
However, if the series' casting were up to Butler, he would choose a completely different cast of characters, who "really got some stuff going [on]."
The six-time All-Star's first dream casting choice was his ex-Bulls teammate Kirk Hinrich. He cited the former 13-year NBA veteran's "country" lifestyle.
"Personally, I think Kirk Hinrich is just a country individual," Butler said. "And y'all [would] really like to see what Kirk is doing behind closed doors, besides shotgunning beers."
Butler selected Jordan second, noting that the six-time NBA champion was an obvious choice.
"You've gotta say Mike because Mike's always got something [going on]," Butler said.
Butler's third pick was his ex-Philadelphia 76ers co-star Joel Embiid. He highlighted his curiosity about the one-time MVP's off-court lifestyle.
"I'm curious about Joel Embiid's life," Butler said. "I want to know more about JoJo now that he's a father and he just signed an extension."
Fourthly, Butler chose Sacramento Kings star forward DeMar DeRozan. Upon doing so, he turned to the six-time All-Star and pointed out his unique LA-inspired fashion sense.
"You've gotta pick DeMar," Butler said. "... Look at him. Just LA from head to toe. I haven't seen a player wear Louboutins in like 10 years, and he's still got it."
Lastly, Butler named his ex-Heat teammate Kyle Lowry, attributing the pick to their tight bond and the one-time NBA champion's high character.
"I'ma tell you somebody that's super interesting, he's the godfather of Rylee Butler, my daughter. Kyle Lowry," Butler said. "I think y'all would be very, very impressed with who Kyle is as a person. I just don't want to see him play golf all day, but take the golf out, and he's dope."
