Jimmy Butler's daughter not a fan of his iconic emo look as Heat star explains its backstory

Over the past few years, Jimmy Butler has shown up to media day with some jaw-dropping looks. 12 months removed from the debut of his 'emo' look, we see how someone very close to him felt about the decision.

Butler was among the five players chosen for Netflix's documentary 'Starting 5', which followed various stars in the league. While speaking about the Miami Heat forward, his decision for media day last year was brought up.

With the documentary now streaming on Netflix, Jimmy Butler decided to post a snippet from it on his Instagram profile. During the clip, he is seen FaceTiming his family as he gets his hair and makeup done. When Butler's daughter saw the emo attire, she was quick to tell him she didn't like it.

When giving the backstory on what led to him going the emo route, Butler admitted that the idea came from his nanny just weeks before media day.

Butler pulls this stunt on media day as a prank on the league. Knowing that media day headshots are used for game promotions all season, they have no choice but to promote him in his bizarre looks. The year before he went emo, Butler donned long dreadlocks for the Heat's media day.

Aside from the six-time All-Star, 'Starting 5' also followed four other premiere NBA stars last season. The other players featured are LeBron James, Anthony Edwards, Jayson Tatum and Domantas Sabonis.

Jimmy Butler reflects on suffering knee injury vs 76ers in play-in tournament

During the documentary, Jimmy Butler goes in-depth on a variety of things that he went through last year. Among the things he brought up was his gruesome end to the 2023-24 season.

After finishing with the eighth seed, the Miami Heat faced off against the Philadelphia 76ers in the first game of the play-in tournament. Early on in the matchup, Butler would sustain a knee injury that would mark the beginning of the end of Miami.

Butler was driving to the basket of Kelly Oubre but opted to ball fake before shooting to get his defender in the air. Oubre bit on the fake and ended up landing awkwardly on Butler's knee. It was later revealed that the Heat star suffered a meniscus injury on the play.

Jimmy Butler managed to return and play nearly 40 minutes but wasn't much of a factor. He'd finish with 19 points, four rebounds, five assists and five steals, but the Sixers went on to win in a nail-biter.

Despite being without Butler after this game, the Heat still managed to punch their ticket to the playoffs. They secured the eighth seed, meaning they'd have to face the Boston Celtics in round one. Heavily shorthanded in the series, the Heat ended up getting eliminated in five games.
