Joel Embiid's misery continues as brutal injury takes down big man vs PacersĀ
Joel Embiid will not return to Friday's contest against the Indiana Pacers. The Philadelphia 76ers star's misery with injuries continued again after he went down with another knock. Embiid took a shot to the face from a Pacers player late in the first half. He got hit on the right side and immediately went down.
Embiid didn't come out in the second half, with Andre Drummond starting in his place.
Embiid, who has played only six games this season, including Friday, has already dealt with a bevy of injury issues to his left knee. A new ailment only worsens the 76ers woes, as they are reeling with a 7-15 record amid his prolonged absences. Embiid returned on Dec. 7 after a seven-game injury hiatus.
What happened to Joel Embiid?
Joel Embiid has suffered a sinus fracture after Friday's knock against the Pacers. He took a hit to the bridge of his nose from Bennedict Mathurtin's left elbow as the Indiana player came down after attempting a putback attempt. Embiid was in the corner at the time, hoping to grab the defensive rebound.
The Sixers star has faced multiple facial injuries over the past two years, including an orbital bone fracture in the 2022 playoffs and another injury in 2018 after colliding with former teammate Markelle Fultz. The recovery for Embiid's sinus fracture will depend on the severity of it.
However, he could be out for two weeks at least, which is a long time. The Sixers will have to continue to find ways to improve without him. It didn't go well on Friday, though. After Embiid went down following a 12-point, four-rebound, five-assist burst in 17 minutes, the Sixers lost 121-107 to the Pacers. With Embiid, the Sixers trailed by 11 before he left the floor.
However, they had a legitimate shot to win if he played till the end.
