Joel Embiid Stats Tonight: How did 76ers star fare against Nets? (Feb. 22)
Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers took on the Brooklyn Nets on Saturday night. Embiid and the Sixers headed to the match-up in hopes of breaking their six-game losing streak. In their last game, Philly took on the defending NBA champions, the Boston Celtics. The champs overwhelmed the Sixers with a 124-104 victory.
Come Saturday, the Sixers seemed to struggle once again. The Nets took over in the first quarter of the game with Cameron Johnson leading the charge. Embiid struggled to help his team match Brooklyn's energy as he only scored four points. However, we have to commend the star big man for attempting to play a more passive role after dishing four assists.
In the second quarter, Joel Embiid picked up the pace a little bit but still fell short in terms of catching up to the Brooklyn Nets. Embiid added six more points to his total score and got a bit busy on the boards securing three rebounds. However, it wasn't enough to stop Brooklyn's momentum.
Come the third quarter, Joel Embiid still struggled on the offensive load. Embiid focused more on securing the boards while Tyrese Maxey took care of the scoring. While both Sixers stars did their best to catch up to the Brooklyn Nets, they still fell short in the third period.
Ultimately, Nic Claxton sealed the deal for the Nets as he beat the buzzer with 0.3 seconds remaining on the clock to win the game with a 105-103 finish. While Sixers fans thought they were headed to overtime after Tyrese Maxey’s dagger 3-point bomb to tie the game, Claxton broke the hearts of the audience in Philly.
76ers vs Nets recap: Nic Claxton shatters Joel Embiid and Sixers
The Philadelphia 76ers and Brooklyn Nets played a wild game on Saturday as the Nets came up with a nail-biting 105-103 victory in Philadelphia. Tyrese Maxey did everything he could to try and keep the game alive for the Sixers. However, Nic Claxton came up clutch with a last-second tip-in to ice the game for Brooklyn.
Joel Embiid had a lackluster performance on Saturday and failed to provide Maxey with efficient help. Embiid struggled to find his shot all night only making 30.8% of his shot attempts. The star big man added 14 points, seven rebounds, five assists and one block.
Tyrese Maxey stepped up to the occasion and led by example on offense. Maxey scored 31 points in an attempt to make a comeback victory at home. Unfortunately for him, none of the other star players on his team could keep up with his intensity against the Nets.
The Sixers are now on a seven-game losing streak, lowering their chances of at least making the Play-In Tournament this year.
