Jonathan Kuminga Injury Update: Steve Kerr offers concerning update on Warriors star forward amid spiraling season

Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr shared a significant update on star forward Jonathan Kuminga during an appearance on the "Willard & Dibs" podcast on Tuesday. Kerr provided a concerning assessment of Kuminga's status, revealing that the forward, currently sidelined with a right ankle sprain, is "nowhere close to being ready to play."

The team's second-leading scorer this season is expected to miss several more games before potentially returning. Kuminga, a 6-foot-7 forward, sustained the injury in a game against the Memphis Grizzlies on Jan. 4. Since then, the one-time champion has been absent for eight consecutive games.

The Warriors have felt Kuminga’s absence as their season continues to spiral. Steph Curry and his squad have lost five of their last eight games and now sit in 11th place in the Western Conference standings, with a disappointing 21-21 record through 42 games.

Kerr’s latest update on Kuminga follows recent positive progress in the star forward’s recovery. Kuminga has shed the walking boot he had been wearing for an extended period after sustaining the injury.

Fans react to Jonathan Kuminga's injury update

The Golden State Warriors fans were buzzing with concern after Steve Kerr shared an unconvincing update on Jonathan Kuminga’s recovery progress and potential return timeline.

"TJD, Moody, Santos, Post, and Spencer- that should be the core until Kuminga and Podziemski are back. 35 to 40 minutes a night for all of them and if Kerr doesn’t want to do it, fire his ass. I need to see if Kerr can coach them as much as I do that they are able to play," a fan commented.
"As far as being competitive, the season is done for the warriors. I don’t even know why Step is out there risking injuries that could jeopardize his career. Seriously why do they even continue to play him?" commented another fan.
"conspiracy theory time, warriors med staff will hold him out as long as possible to tank his value so he can resign on the cheap in the offseason," a fan wrote.
"Yeah just tank for the rest of the season as they should get cooper flag," another fan said.

Meanwhile, the Warriors are set to take on the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday at the Golden 1 Center.
