Josh Hart clarifies cryptic tweet after “Nova Knicks” break up before season debut
Josh Hart is a key part of the New York Knicks’ resurgence as a contender in the East. He is also known for being active on X, formerly Twitter, with his takes. News broke Friday night that the Knicks were acquiring Karl-Anthony Towns as part of a three-team trade. Thus, when Hart tweeted on Saturday morning, fans assumed it was regarding the trade. Hart wrote:
“Uhh…are we serious?”
As expected, fans took to the comments section to express their views on the trade as well.
“I still can’t believe it man,” a fan wrote.
“Yes Josh. What are your thoughts?” another added.
Hart eventually clarified that his tweet wasn’t regarding the trade but rather Chelsea FC’s Premier League game against Brighton. The timing of the tweet coincided with the Blues going down 1-0 early in the game. Hart wrote on X:
“THIS IS ABOUT THE CHELSEA MATCH!”
The talking point about the Towns acquisition was that it sent Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo to the Minnesota Timberwolves. The departure of DiVincenzo is particularly important here, as he, Josh Hart, Jalen Brunson and Mikal Bridges played together for the Villanova Wildcats.
Fondly called the “Nova Knicks” by fans, the four were expected to relive their college days this upcoming season. Bridges was acquired earlier in the offseason from the Brooklyn Nets. With DiVincenzo now no longer a part of the Knicks, the Villanova reunion plan ended even before the season could start.
Josh Hart shared screenshot of FaceTime call celebrating Villanova reunion
When the New York Knicks traded for Mikal Bridges, Josh Hart’s happiness knew no bounds. He took to X to share a screenshot of him, Jalen Brunson, Bridges and Donte DiVincenzo getting on a FaceTime call to celebrate the reunion. The four players were part of the Villanova Wildcats teams that won the national title in 2016 and 2018.
While Hart hasn’t spoken about the Friday trade yet, it is safe to assume that he must at least be a little sad to see DiVincenzo leave. However, the arrival of Karl-Anthony Towns solves the Knicks’ concerns at the center position. Mitchell Robinson isn’t expected to start the season, while Isaiah Hartenstein signed with the OKC Thunder during free agency.
This left New York really short at the position and Julius Randle was expected to start at center. With Towns in the lineup, he is a more natural fit. He just needs to work with Josh Hart and Jalen Brunson to take the team to the next level after failing in the second round of the 2024 NBA Playoffs.
