"Just like Steph Curry": Ex-WNBA player likens Caitlin Clark's shot-making decision to Warriors superstar after missed 30-footer vs Aces
Former WNBA player Val Whiting dropped a reaction to Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark's shot-making decision during the 78-74 loss to the Las Vegas Aces on Friday. Whiting reacted to a video on X (formerly Twitter) that highlighted Clark's 30-foot shot attempt with 1:18 remaining in the game and Indiana trailing 72-70.
The Fever rookie missed her shot, and the Aces grabbed the rebound, leaving the home team without points during a critical possession in the game.
"What a Horrible shot! Tried to get your individual moment against Aja Wilson & you cost your team the game! It’s a reason she has 0 championships at all levels! She plays for herself," wrote an X user while sharing the video of Clark's missed shot.
Whiting pointed out that the former Iowa star took a poorly timed shot, particularly with the Fever trailing by just two points and not three.
"It was a bad shot. There was 15 sec left on the shot cock and there was a mismatch in the paint," Whiting wrote.
In another comment, the two-time NCAA champion compared Clark to four-time NBA champion and greatest shooter of all time Steph Curry, indirectly highlighting the fact that both players are prepared to live and die by the sword.
"I think she say that she had a post player on her and was trying to take advantage of the mismatch. The timing was just bad. But it’s just like Steph curry. A bad shot for others is a good shot for Steph," Whiting opined.
Caitlin Clark is never hesitant to take 3-point shots from well beyond the arc. Her average shooting distance is an impressive 28.09 feet, far exceeding the 3-point lines in both the WNBA and NBA, which are set at 22.15 feet and 23.75 feet, respectively.
Clark is even surpassing Steph Curry, whose longest average shooting distance in a season was recorded at 27.58 feet.
Jason Whitlock also critical of Caitlin Clark's decision-making
Veteran analyst Jason Whitlock also voiced his frustration with Caitlin Clark's shot-making decisions after the Indiana Fever suffered defeat against the Las Vegas Aces in back-to-back games.
"Game tied 60-60 with 9 minutes left.. Clark takes 27-foot logo three. Fever down 72-70 with 1:17 to play.. Clark takes 31-foot logo three. Both shots early in the shot clock. Both shots miss. The logo three is not Caitlin Clark's friend. Clark plays a fun game, not a smart one," Whitlock tweeted after the game on Friday.
Clark has knocked down 114 3-pointers this season and leads the league in this category. The rookie is shooting 33.7% from beyond the arc.
