Karl-Anthony Towns' girlfriend Jordyn Woods shouts out Simone Biles for creating history at the 2024 Olympics
Simone Biles added a fifth Olympic gold medal in her illustrious career after helping the U.S. women's gymnastics squad win the gold in Tuesday's women's team event at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. Among those who congratulated her on social media was Minnesota Timberwolves All-Star Karl-Anthony Town's girlfriend Jordyn Woods.
The American gymnasts were impressive in winning the team event gold, led by 27-year-old Ohio native Biles, who shone brightly on all four apparatus. The U.S. team finished with 171.296 points, 5.802 points ahead of second-placed Italy.
The latest gold medal was the fifth for Simone Biles, in addition to the four she won at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil. It was also her eighth Olympic medal, including one silver and two bronze, pushing her past Shannon Miller, who won seven medals for the U.S. to make her the most decorated American gymnast of all time.
Woods moved to celebrate that, sharing a photo of Biles biting her gold medal on her Instagram story. She captioned it with:
"Simone Biles just became the most decorated U.S. Olympic gymnast of all time! She now holds five gold, one silver and two bronze medals."
Biles missed out on winning a gold medal in the Tokyo Games in 2021 after surprisingly withdrawing from the team event after suffering what is referred to as "twisties," a condition that affects a gymnast's ability to perform difficult moves because of a temporary loss of spatial awareness.
She is now using the 2024 Paris Olympics as her platform to redeem herself.
LeBron James, Team USA rallying behind Simone Biles at Paris Olympics
As Simone Biles continues to make her push for history at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, members of the U.S. men's basketball team, led by LeBron James, are rallying behind her.
The 4-foot-8 gymnastics superstar became the most decorated American gymnast by chalking up her fifth gold medal in the Olympics, and eighth medal overall, by helping the U.S. team to the all-around event gold on Tuesday. She broke a tie with Shannon Miller, who won seven medals for the United States.
Even before Biles went to the French capital for the 2024 Olympic Games, American NBA stars competing in Paris were already raving about her and her place not only in gymnastics history but also in sports in general.
LA Lakers superstar James said of her fellow Ohio native, by way of ESPN:
"'She's the best. It's simple. She's the best."
Adding:
"Simone is super dope. And she is an inspiration to my daughter and to all, not only Black girls in the world, but also kids, anyone, not only just in gymnastics, but any field..."
Another Team USA member, Bam Adebayo, had a similar take, saying:
"To be that good -- well, excuse me, to be that great -- and she still keeps breaking barriers... She's done a lot for not only the faces of us but for her sports as a whole."
Currently with five gold medals, Biles is just three away from tying swimmer Jenny Thompson at eight for the most Olympic gold medals won by an American woman. She has the opportunity to achieve that if she tops her three remaining events at the Paris Games, namely, the vault, balance beam and floor exercise.
