Karl-Anthony Towns' 'soft' portrayal flamed by people within the NBA: Knicks Insider

Last weekend, Karl-Anthony Towns was traded to the New York Knicks in a move that stunned the NBA world. As the All-Star center gets ready to embark on this new journey, one insider spoke out against the main narrative around him.

For most of his career, Towns has been labeled as a soft player by fans and analysts alike. However, some people around the league think that characteristic of him is fabricated. Recent developments detail how this narrative might have formed and been overstated over the years.

“Finesse player? Yes. Soft player? No,” the NBA source told The Post. “I think it’s the whole thing that happened with Jimmy Butler. In today’s world, somebody can write a script about you and that s–t never changes.”

Jimmy Butler is brought up for that infamous practice when he was seeking a trade from the Minnesota Timberwolves. It's alleged that he took down Towns and Andrew Wiggins in practice with the third-string lineup while endlessly trash-talking them.

Another aspect that has likely played a part in this narrative is the way Karl-Anthony Towns plays. As a center who does most of his damage on the perimeter, it could lead to people viewing him as soft.

Faulty narrative aside, there is no denying Towns is an impactful talent in the league. Fresh off being a top option on a team that made the conference finals, he's now joining a deep Knicks team led by Jalen Brunson.

While reports of this trade emerged over the weekend, it didn't become official until days later. With things set in stone, Karl-Anthony Towns is now able to get to work with his new team.

On Thursday morning, the Knicks posted a video on social media of Towns at the team's facility. The former No. 1 pick was donning his new threads while getting shots up by himself.

After news of Mitchell Robinson missing the start of the season due to injury, they were in desperate need of a center. They managed to secure a massive upgrade in Karl-Anthony Towns. He is the finishing touch on what has been a blockbuster offseason for the Knicks.

In New York, Towns will now slide back to his natural position of center. Along with being a secondary scoring option behind Jalen Brunson, he'll be able to open up the floor for the Knicks with his three-point shooting.

KAT is coming off a season with the Minnesota Timberwolves where he averaged 21.8 points and shot 41.6% from beyond the arc.

With the addition of Towns, the Knicks have pushed all in on contending for a championship right now. Only time will tell if their big trades will result in a deep playoff run.
