Devin Booker benefitting from Kevin Durant's presence on Phoenix Suns
The Phoenix Suns have been on a roll since Kevin Durant's debut in the 105-91 win over the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday (March 1). There was reasonable doubt regarding Devin Booker and Durant's fit as teammates, but it seems like a smooth transition.
If anything, Booker seems to have benefitted from Durant's presence. The defensive attention the latter receives creates better opportunities for the former. That wasn't the case before, as Booker was the Suns' primary option and their most reliable scorer.
Durant's playmaking, efficiency, and scoring have allowed Booker to play more freely. In the three games they have played together, the latter has averaged 36.0 points and 7.7 assists, shooting 56.0% from the floor, including 50.0% from 3-point range.
Kevin Durant has settled well into his new surroundings. He has averaged 26.0 points and 7.3 rebounds, shooting 69.0% from the field, including 53.8% from 3-point range. His ability to play off other potent superstars is on display across his first three appearances.
The early signs are favorable for the Pheonix Suns, who are short on time to find chemistry with their new-look roster. Integrating a player of Durant's caliber midseason can be tricky, but Monty Williams has handled the situation brilliantly.
The Suns' lack of depth remains a concern, though. They are top-heavy, which hasn't been the case over the last two seasons. The presence of Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, and Jae Crowder helped them navigate their struggles in their stars' absence. Phoenix will need Kevin Durant and Devin Booker to be healthy and have a legitimate shot at sustaining their current run.
