Kevin Durant comes up with a special moniker for Anthony Edwards after Olympic bonding: "Baby GOAT"
NBA superstar Kevin Durant of the Phoenix Suns has developed a special bond with Team USA teammate Anthony Edwards. He has even come up with a special moniker for the Minnesota Timberwolves' All-Star guard.
Speaking during the Fanatics Fest in New York City on Saturday, 'KD' shared what he felt was a fitting moniker for 'Ant-Man' for the way he has been positioning his career in the NBA.
Kevin Durant said:
'Man, I call him the baby GOAT. You know what I mean."
Edwards solidified his standing as one of the emerging forces in the NBA last season by helping the Timberwolves reach the Western Conference finals for the first time in 20 years.
He then took his act with Team USA for the recently concluded 2024 Paris Olympic Games, joining forces with Kevin Durant and 10 other NBA stars to win a fifth straight gold medal.
Durant was third in scoring on the team with 13.8 ppg in six games, behind Steph Curry (14.8 ppg) and LeBron James (14.2 ppg). Edwards, meanwhile, averaged 12.8 points.
Both Durant and Edwards were at the Fanatics Fest to interact with fans. The event is the first-ever immersive sports festival for sports fans and collectors, happening from Aug. 16 to 18.
Anthony Edwards says he felt bad eliminating Kevin Durant in last year's playoffs
Given how things developed for them in the Olympics, Anthony Edwards said, in hindsight, he felt bad eliminating Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns in the opening round of the playoffs last season.
'Ant-Man' led the Minnesota Timberwolves to a sweep of the Suns. Along the way, Edwards and 'KD' had an engaging battle, including exchanging lively trash-talking.
Speaking during an interview session along with Durant at the Fanatics Fest in New York City on Saturday, Edwards reflected on the manner they booted out the Suns in the playoffs.
He said:
"I'm not gon' lie, I felt bad a little bit, only because he's my favorite player of all time. I didn't wanna to send him home like that. It happened."
Edwards was stellar in their four-game sweep of the Suns. He went for 31 points, eight rebounds, 6.3 assists, 3.5 3-pointers made, and two steals per contest.
The Wolves went on to reach the Western Conference finals for the first time after 20 years. However, they lost to the Dallas Mavericks in five games.
Kevin Durant, meanwhile, tried to lead the Suns past the Timberwolves with averages of 26.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.5 blocks in 42 minutes of play.
In the Olympics, however, the two-time NBA champion took the rising star under his wing and showed him the ropes of playing in the Summer Games with much success.
