Kevin Durant continues his tirade over fans says, "a lot of huge egos" believe they're the reason for sport advancement
On Thursday afternoon, Kevin Durant helped Team USA complete a massive comeback against Serbia in the semifinals of the 2024 Olympics. Following this incredible feat, the former MVP once again finds himself battling with fans online.
Throughout his career, Durant has built a reputation for getting into heated discussions with fans on social media. Coming off the win against Serbia, he is at it again. Durant's discourse began when he jokingly asked a fan where they were from after applauding Serbia for their efforts against Team USA.
After numerous responses from fans, Kevin Durant posted an elongated calling out those who follow the sport. In his rant, he called out fans for having "huge egos" and feeling they played a part in basketball's growth:
"Lets talk about the fan culture that’s been created recently. A lot of huge egos who believe they are the reason for the advancement of a sport. ALOT of idol worship, a lot of hate and division based off wins and losses, a lot of disrespect of the work being put in by these incredible athletes."
The semifinal matchup was one of Durant's quieter outings in these Olympics, tallying nine points in 24 minutes of action. On Saturday, the Phoenix Suns star finds himself with an opportunity to win his fourth gold medal.
Kevin Durant claps back at Denver Nuggets fans
As the lone superstar on Serbia's national team, Nikola Jokic received a lot of praise following the thrilling semifinal matchup. This led to Kevin Durant setting the record straight regarding the three-time MVP.
When fans were pouring in the comment section to respond to KD, one claimed that his rant was rooted in jealousy. The fan cited that Durant can't accept the fact that Jokic is the best player in the world at the moment.
Kevin Durant ended up re-posting this comment and diving even further into it. He singled out Denver Nuggets fans, claiming that players in the league don't care about debates like this. That said, he did make sure to credit Jokic for his masterful play on the basketball court.
"To all you nuggets fans, nobody gives a f*** who yall lames believe is the best player in the league, players got major respect for Jok, we don’t worship him like yall do but most are in awe of his brilliance."
Jokic did everything he could to help lift his team to the gold medal game, but it wasn't enough to match the United State's firepower. He played all but three minutes of this game and finished with a stat line of 17 points, five rebounds and 11 assists.
