Kevin Durant drops two-word praise for Simone Biles' record-breaking 6th Olympic gold
Team USA star Kevin Durant recently heaped the praise on Simone Biles after the US gymnast won a historic sixth Olympic gold medal. After posting a series of dominant performances throughout the first week of the Olympics, Biles kept the momentum going on Thursday, winning a gold medal in the individual all-around competition.
The win came on the heels of Biles and Team USA winning gold earlier in the week, where Biles played a key role in the team's gold medal win. In response to her individual gold medal on Thursday, Kevin Durant took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share his thoughts, sharing a two-word reaction to the news.
"Goat Biles"
With her individual win on Thursday, Biles is now a six-time Olympic gold medalist, winning both the Team and the individual all-around gold medals this year.
In addition, she also won four gold medals in 2016 at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, capturing gold in the team and the all-around exercises, as well as the vault and floor exercise.
Biles is now the most accomplished US gymnast in history, winning more medals than any male or female US gymnast. In addition, she also moves into fifth place all-time for most gold medals by a US athlete, tying swimmer Ryan Lochte, and runner Amy Van Dyken.
Kevin Durant boldly claims that Simone Biles can catch an alley-oop following gold medal win
In addition to dubbing Biles as the GOAT, Kevin Durant also notably reacted to her gold medal win on Thursday with a bold statement. As he wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, he believes that Biles can catch a lob and finish the dunk.
Of course, it’s important to note that Biles is able to get so much height while tumbling during her floor routine because of springs under the mat, which give her a boost. Additionally, Biles is also listed as being just 4’8, meaning that she would have to jump several feet in the air in order to catch an alley-oop dunk.
Despite that, according to a report from USA Today, when Biles is tumbling on the floor, she gets as high as 12 feet off the ground, meaning she could very well catch an alley-oop under those circumstances.
Following her performance on Thursday, which caught the attention of Kevin Durant, Simone Biles will be back in action several more times before the end of the 2024 Paris Olympics.
On August. 3, she will compete in the women’s vault final before then participating in the balance beam finals and floor exercise finals on August. 5.
In the case of Kevin Durant, the future Hall of Famer will be back in action on Friday as Team USA takes on Puerto Rico in the final game of the Group Phase before the start of the knockout round.
