Kevin Durant firmly disputes 3xNBA champ's statue prediction
While Dwyane Wade might think that Kevin Durant will have his own statue after his playing career is up, the latter doesn't think so. Over the weekend, the Miami Heat unveiled Dwyane Wade's statue outside the Kaseya Center, raising questions about which active players will get their own statues someday.
When asked to name three active players who deserve statues, Wade said that he feels as though LeBron James, Steph Curry, and Kevin Durant deserve their own statues.
During an appearance on Kay Adams' Up And Adams Show, Durant said that he doesn't believe he'll get a statue for his accomplishments on a basketball court. As he explained, statues are often reserved for players who spend their entire careers, or most of their careers, with one team.
"I highly highly doubt I get a statue of me put anywhere for playing basketball... It's usually those guys that got the HOF career, with championships, you been with one city for a long time. That's not the case for me," he said.
"I disagree with D-Wade but I appreciate him," he added.
Kevin Durant sends a message to fans after Suns avenge loss to Lakers on Monday
In the Phoenix Suns' home opener, the team picked up an overtime win over the Los Angeles Clippers, with Kevin Durant leading the way for The Valley with 25 points. Two days later, the team dropped a road game to the Lakers 123-116, where Durant again led the way in scoring with 30 points.
After starting the season 1-1, Durant and the Suns have since rallied, winning two straight matches. On Saturday, they defeated the Dallas Mavericks, who are currently the reigning Western Conference Champions, with Durant scoring 31 points in the 114-102 win.
Then, on Monday, the team avenged their loss to the Lakers from last week, picking up a 109-105 win at home to bring their season record to 3-1.
After the game, Kevin Durant spoke on-court during the postgame interview, sending a message to fans about the start of the season for Phoenix:
"Quite frankly, we just want to start the season off way better, with more energy, and have more people rally around us than we did last year. I feel like our fans could get behind the product that was on the floor."
After their win on Monday, the team will be back in action tomorrow for another road game at the Intuit Dome.
