Kevin Durant hails 'godlike' Steph Curry for taking Team USA from faltering to record 18th Olympics final
Steph Curry was the bright spot in Team USA's semifinal win against Serbia (95-91) on Thursday at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Curry performed so well that even his former Golden State Warriors teammate Kevin Durant couldn't believe what he saw from the star guard.
Curry led the charge with his nine-made threes in the game and finished with 36 points, eight rebounds and two assists. The Serbians led for most of the game but the stellar performance from the four-time NBA champion came in handy for them in the final quarter.
Now, he has assisted Team USA in making its 18th trip to the tournament's final, where they will take on France in the gold medal game on Saturday.
After the game, Durant spoke highly of Curry for carrying the team on his back when they needed him.
"That was a godlike performance. God was with him tonight. It was one of the greatest games I’ve ever seen him play," Durant said.
Curry and Durant have played together in the NBA for three seasons. But the star forward hasn't gotten used to how the two-time MVP plays on the court.
On Saturday, the Warriors star has the chance to win his first Olympic gold medal, which might be the only major award he's been missing. In the NBA, he's collected championships, MVPs and even one Finals MVP trophy. On top of that, he's been an All-Star in the league on multiple occasions.
Internationally, however, he's only had to suit up for Team USA twice. Both times were for the FIBA World Cup in 2010 and 2014.
Curry was able to win the gold medal with the team at that time, but it has always felt incomplete. Now, an Olympic gold medal hanging around the star's neck could soon be the sight for most fans.

LeBron James' thoughts on Steph Curry's scoring outburst
LeBron James is having a great summer as he's on his way to winning his third gold medal and gets to play with Steph Curry. After the thrilling win against Serbia, James shared his thoughts on the game that Curry had for Team USA.
"It was only a matter of time before he had one of these games, we could see it every day, he puts so much work in not to have a game like this. We wouldn't want it any other way. It was the perfect timing for Chef to come out and do what he did," James said.
Curry's 36-point performance is only the second-highest points scored for any Team USA player at the Olympics. In the 2012 Olympics, former NBA star Carmelo Anthony set the record at 37 points.
James also had a great game as he posted 16 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists.
