Kevin Durant jokingly shuts down narrative of being a 7-footer after viral Team USA photoshoot: "Embiid's not 7-feet"
For the fourth time in his career, Kevin Durant is suiting up for Team USA in the Olympics. Ahead of his pursuit for a fourth gold medal, the superstar forward attempted to shut down the growing narrative around him.
KD is one of the many superstars who opted to play for the United States this summer. He is part of a frontcourt core that includes Joel Embiid, Anthony Davis and Bam Adebayo.
Earlier this week, a team photo surfaced of Durant standing next to the team's centers. While he lists himself as 6-foot-9, the Phoenix Suns star is the same height as Embiid and AD.
While appearing on the "Up and Adams" show Thursday, Kevin Durant set the record straight. He said it's the other players lying about their height, not him.
"I guess those guys must be shorter than what their numbers say. I'm 6'9 though," Durant said. "AD is probably 6'9, so they probably adding a little more on their height."
"Yeah, Embiid is not seven feet."
Team USA had their first showcase game Wednesday night, taking down Canada by a final score of 86-72. However, Durant was on the sidelines. He is currently dealing with a calf injury but is expected to be ready by the start of the Olympics.
Kevin Durant once admitted to lying about his height
This is not the first time a debate has spawned regarding Kevin Durant's listed height. It has regularly been brought up throughout his NBA career.
One of the more recent times it happened was during one of Durant's past runs with Team USA. He was seen standing next to former Sacramento Kings All-Star DeMarcus Cousins and they are the same height. Cousins was listed as 6-foot-10 during his time in the league.
Aside from being one of the greatest scorers ever, Kevin Durant is also known for liking to troll fans online. The way he lists his height is one of his longest-running bits.
Back in 2016, Durant opted to leave the OKC Thunder for the Golden State Warriors. During his first season with the team, he was asked about his height in an interview with KNBR. It was there that Durant revealed he lied about his height simply to joke with people.
"Since I love you guys so much, I was recorded at 6'10" and three-quarters with no shoes, so with my shoes on I'm 7-feet," Durant said. I just like messin' with people. They just ask me so much... yeah, I just like messin' with people."
Seeing that he's clearly around the same height as Joel Embiid and Anthony Davis, it's clear that Durant is a near seven-footer.
