Kevin Garnett in awe of LeBron James' playmaking and defense with Team USA: "Lord! Bron could play 10 more years in a Draymond role"
LeBron James has left fans in awe with his playmaking and defense as the point forward for Team USA in their first exhibition game versus the Canadian national team on Tuesday,
One of those who were left stunned by LeBron’s all-around brilliance is his longtime rival, Kevin Garnett. The former NBA champion and future Hall of Famer raved on X, formerly known as Twitter, about James' contributions to the Olympic-bound national team.
“Lord! Bron could play 10 more years in a Draymond role. 💯 🫡,” Garnett said during the Team USA versus Canada game.
Against Canada, James has been holding down almost everything for Team USA, initiating actions with his playmaking abilities and coupling it with his offensive prowess.
James started in the power forward slot, alongside center Joel Embiid, and guards Stephen Curry, Jrue Holiday and Devin Booker. However, James does mostly the playmaking duties as a big and active passing hub, similar to the role Draymond Green plays with the Golden State Warriors.
Notably, Team USA is coached by Steve Kerr, the longtime Warriors coach, who has won four NBA titles, of which three came against James.
Despite putting up against Canada’s tough defenders like Lu Dort and Dillon Brooks, LeBron James has been displaying his chemistry with his Team USA teammates like Curry, Holiday and Jayson Tatum to turn the tables around after trailing by seven points at the end of the first quarter.
Kevin Garnett has taken shots at LeBron James throughout the years
Kevin Garnett and LeBron James, who have histories with Team USA, were rivals when they were contenders in the Eastern Conference with the Boston Celtics, and the Cleveland Cavaliers, respectively.
Their beef, though, emerged when Garnett took shots at LeBron about him joining the Miami Heat in 2010. It should be noted that LeBron James played his last game before joining the Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals, losing to the Boston Celtics, led by Garnett alongside Paul Pierce and Ray Allen.
“We broke LeBron, so get your a** out of here with that,” Garnett claimed in the Bill Simmons podcast in 2019. "The C's, we didn't give a f**k about LeBron. We didn't fear LeBron. And we didn't think he could beat all five of us, and that's how it felt.”
In an episode of the KG Certified podcast, Garnett also claimed that LeBron is using performance-enhancing drugs to play so well for his age.
“You seen his dad? his dad on that Balco,” Kevin said when talking about LeBron’s son Bronny James. “He on that new juice.”
It's known if LeBron has heard all the comments and accusations Garnett has made through the years. But the four-time NBA champion has never replied or jabbed back in any comments against him despite starting his own podcast last season.
