Kevin Love appeals to NBA fans to support former OKC player Kyle Singler after concerning video surfaces online
Miami Heat big man Kevin Love, who has been an outspoken advocate for mental health, is urging NBA fans to throw their support behind Kyle Singler. Singler, who won the NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player award in 2010 while playing with Duke before being drafted by the Detroit Pistons, last played in the NBA in 2018.
According to a video posted to an Instagram account, Singler has now apparently fallen on hard times. In a video on social media, a shirtless Singler spoke about fearing for his life every day.
In the video, Singler said that his voice is getting silenced and his community has been mistreating, abusing and neglecting him. Although it's unclear what has been going on behind the scenes for Singler, the concerning video, which was posted to Instagram, caught the attention of the NBA community.
In addition to responding with a comment to Singler's video, Kevin Love also posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, urging NBA and NCAA fans to support Singler.
“To everyone who has spent time with Kyle Singler and whose lives he has touched - please shower him with the love and support he needs+deserves. I would not be who I am today without him.
"I am forever indebted and love him. To the NBA family, Duke BB family, & South Medford community - let’s show up for one of our own.”
Kyle Singler posts follow-up video after Kevin Love urges fans to support former Duke standout
After sharing his first video on a new Instagram account on Monday night, Kyle Singler then posted a follow-up video on Tuesday from the same house. In it, a shirtless Singler can be seen looking incredibly thin compared to his physique in college and in the NBA.
In the latest video posted on Tuesday, Singler spoke about how he hasn't gotten the support he needs while trying to find his next step after retiring from basketball. The video appears to cut off just at the 90-second mark, just like his first video on Instagram that caught the attention of Love.
In the latest video, he states:
"I've been in this house for five years, and it's a hole. My community. I've gone out to my community. I've tried to bring my family and friends into play to try to help me out, start a new career, begin a new life. And everybody has played me into a fool, creating chaos, creating narratives to again have it be profitable for people.
"My life has not changed at all. I'm being held hostage in a certain situation and position to again create a false narrative about someone and people in general, when all I have been wanting to do is create a business in nature to allow people to feel."
It's unclear what business Singler was referring to, however, the video quickly caught the attention of fans as it circulated around the NBA community. Given that his first video caught the attention of players like Kevin Love, Isaiah Thomas and Andre Drummond, hopefully Singler can get the support he needs.
