Klay Thompson name-drops "ridiculous" LeBron James after achieving latest milestone

Klay Thompson reached a new milestone on Sunday when the Dallas Mavericks faced the Denver Nuggets. Despite a heartbreaker for the Mavs, who lost 112-101, Thompson still has a reason to celebrate as he hit 16,000 career points.

Thompson achieved this milestone in the second quarter of Sunday's game. Klay hit a three with 7:53 minutes remaining in the quarter. He is now the 125th player in NBA history to achieve this milestone.

During the post-game press conference, Klay Thompson expressed his thoughts on hitting the milestone. He acknowledged that it was a good feeling to reach that goal. However, Thompson feels that it isn't as impressive as LeBron James 40,000-plus points in his career.

“It’s cool but makes you realize how ridiculous it is that LeBron has 40 something thousand," Thompson said.

Klay Thompson is now ranked 123rd all-time in career points with 16,013 after Sunday's conclusion. Thompson overtook Derek Harper and Rasheed Wallace, who are both tied with 16,006 career points.

Mavericks vs Nuggets recaps: Denver eclipses Klay Thompson's 16,000 career points

Russell Westbrook and Nikola Jokić took care of Denver's business. Westbrook led his team in scoring with 21 points alongside 10 rebounds, seven assists, two blocks and one steal. As for Jokic, he also had a double-double performance with 19 points, 18 rebounds, nine assists and three steals.

Trying to fend off the Nuggets were Klay Thompson and Spencer Dinwiddie. Aside from notching 16,000 points, Thompson took charge of the Mavericks given the absence of Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic. Klay put up 25 points, six rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block.

Dinwiddie, on the other hand, had a double-double performance by adding 16 points, 10 assists, four rebounds and one steal. Unfortunately, their efforts weren't enough to put a stop to the duo of Westbrook and Jokic.

The Dallas Mavericks are now in the lose column after winning two straight games against the LA Lakers and Portland Trail Blazers. The Mavs are set to face the Denver Nuggets once again, in a back-to-back matchup. Hopefully, Thompson and Dinwiddie would shift gears and get back at Denver.
