Klay Thompson’s funky summer vibes gets Steph Curry’s love before heading to Texas
Klay Thompson’s decision to leave the Golden State Warriors to join Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving in Dallas stunned the basketball world. Thompson and the Dubs couldn't reach an agreement last season, but many were convinced they could work out a deal. When “Game 6 Klay” was reportedly frustrated that the Warriors did not prioritize him, the four-time NBA champ took his talents to Texas.
When the three-team trade that sent Thompson to the Dallas Mavericks became official, Steph Curry wrote a moving Instagram story. The two-time MVP thanked his former longtime teammate and encouraged him to "go enjoy playing basketball and doing what you do."
Roughly two months after Thompson was introduced as part of the Mavericks, he went on Instagram to share a collection of his offseason photos. He captioned the post:
“A funky summer fasho. Off to Texas wid it.”
The pictures included Thompson with Seattle Seahawks legend Marshawn Lynch. Another one featured the five-time All-Star with the legendary Dirk Nowitzki. A few of the images showed him and some friends on his beloved boat.
Steph Curry, who hadn’t reacted to Thompson’s Instagram posts following the trade, responded with a raised hands emoji, signifying praise or celebration.
For the first time in Thompson’s career, he will report to Dallas instead of the Bay Area following an offseason. “Killa Klay” will not have coach Steve Kerr’s familiar face waiting for him. Mavericks coach Jason Kidd and his coaching staff will be the ones who will prepare the red carpet for him.
Steph Curry and Klay Thompson will meet for the first time as opponents in mid-November
Basketball fans likely encircled Nov. 12 this year as a must-see NBA event. The Dallas Mavericks will be in San Francisco to face the Golden State Warriors. It will mark the first time Thompson will face the team that drafted him in 2011.
The Mavericks-Warriors showdown will also be the first time Klay Thompson and Steph Curry will line up against each other in an NBA game. The two were teammates for 13 seasons before the “Splash Bros.” broke up in the summer of 2024.
Thompson’s reaction to the Mavs-Warriors meeting next season was priceless.
“I’m crying!”
Klay Thompson has embraced his new team and is now ready to tangle with familiar faces in mid-November.
