Knicks target another blockbuster trade involving their "longest-tenured player" after landing Karl-Anthony Towns: Reports

The New York Knicks may not be done retooling after it was reported that they are now looking to deal away currently injured big man Mitchell Robinson. This potential move comes after their acquisition of All-Star Karl-Anthony Towns in a blockbuster deal on Friday.

NBA insider Kris Pursiainen reported on the ongoing development on X, saying that the Knicks are fielding offers for Robinson, who incidentally is the longest-tenured player in the New York roster.

It remains to be seen whether anything concrete would come out from the discussions but its likelihood was brought to the fore with the arrival of Towns from the Minnesota Timberwolves.

On Friday, the Knicks gave the go-ahead on the long-rumored move of acquiring Towns, sending All-Star forward Julius Randle, Donte DiVincenzo, and a first-round pick to the Timberwolves for 'KAT.' The move was to fortify the team's frontcourt, which includes seven-footer Mitchell.

Mitchell only played 31 games for the Knicks last season because of an ankle injury. But despite seeing limited action, when he was healthy, he was a key cog in the team's rotation, who made his presence felt on the defensive end.

Selected in the second round of the 2018 draft by New York, Mitchell is expected to be out for the earlier part of the 2024-25 NBA season to continue his recovery from the ankle injury he suffered last campaign.

Mitchell Robinson may be expecting to be traded by the Knicks after Towns deal

Even before news of the New York Knicks possibly trading him came out, Mitchell Robinson hinted that he was already expecting the move after the team acquired Karl-Anthony Towns in a blockbuster deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The six-year veteran reacted to the acquisition of Towns with a cryptic post on Instagram, sharing on his story a poster of the 2020-21 Knicks team roster and highlighting that he was the only one left from the team.

He highlighted his post by saying he is a "really great vibe" and that he is the "longest Knick" who sacrificed his body "to get the job done."

Robinson's post invited much speculation, and his days as a Knicks player may be numbered. He could join the likes of RJ Barrett, Immanuel Quickley, Obi Toppin, and Julius Randle, who were traded in the last couple of years.

In six years so far in New York, the former high school star has had career averages of 8 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks in 320 games.

Last season, Robinson only played 31 games because of an ankle injury but his team still did well, finishing with a 50-32 record, second in the Eastern Conference, and making it all the way to the conference semifinals.
