Will the Lakers bring back Kyle Kuzma?
A report on Wednesday indicated that the LA Lakers are considering reuniting with their former player Kyle Kuzma, who spent his first four NBA seasons with the team.
Anthony Irwin reported that Kuzma, who won a championship with the Lakers in 2020, is among the team's trade targets following an uneventful free agency. The Lakers are also reportedly interested in acquiring Jerami Grant from the Portland Trail Blazers and Cameron Johnson from the Brooklyn Nets, among others.
“Sources say the Lakers have held trade talks with the Portland Trail Blazers about Jerami Grant, the Brooklyn Nets about Cameron Johnson and Dorian Finney-Smith, the Toronto Raptors about Bruce Brown and the Washington Wizards about Kyle Kuzma — as well as other teams and other trade targets,” Irwin said.
“To this point, though, those are the names most closely linked to the Lakers, according to league and team sources.”
Kyle Kuzma played 276 regular-season games for the Lakers in his career, averaging 15.2 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game.
In the 2020 NBA Finals, he averaged 8.5 points and 2.8 rebounds per game.
This free agency, the Lakers have made only minor adjustments to their roster. Their most notable moves include re-signing LeBron James, drafting his son Bronny, extending Max Christie, and adding sharpshooter Dalton Knecht.
They have not managed to secure a third star to pair with James and Anthony Davis to help the team advance beyond the first round of the playoffs.
Significant changes have occurred in the coaching staff, with new head coach JJ Redick and assistants Nate McMillan and Scott Brooks joining the team.
