Kyrie Irving opens up on post-retirement coaching plans: "I’m more of like, consultant type"

Kyrie Irving talked about what he plans to do after retiring from basketball during an interview when he was asked if he ever thought about coaching.

Kyrie declined and explained why it isn't on his post-retirement bucket list.

“I don’t know if I’m going to coach at this level, man," Irving said "I’m more of like, consultant type.
"I like to make my own hours. If you know my personality, I'm not trying to be forced to do anything. You telling me I got to show up at 9AM, I'm like "Uhh, maybe 9:08 or something like that."”

Irving then followed up with what he sees himself doing after his NBA career:

"I think once I'm done, I'll definitely have one of the best academies of all time. You know skills training, mental, spiritual, emotional and just bringing a lot of the experts. Not only in the game of basketball, but in different fields."

While Kyrie Irving has a clear vision of what he wants to do when he retires, he said that he's more focused on the present, as he's still enjoying his time as a player.

Kyrie Irving had a successful 2023-24 NBA season, as he and the Dallas Mavericks lost to the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals.

Since Irving teamed up with Luka Doncic in the middle of the 2022-23 season, many predicted that they would win a title together. Although it's yet to happen, they came close by making a Finals appearance in only their second year together.

Last season, Irving averaged 25.6 points, 5.2 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game. Despite missing out on the All-Star game, there's no question that Kyrie put up superstar numbers. Thanks to his efficient numbers, it was enough to provide Doncic with the support he has needed for a long time.

Looking at Doncic's numbers last year, he averaged 33.9 ppg, 9.8 apg, 9.2 rpg and 1.4 spg. With Dallas now having two stars putting up high numbers, it makes it easier for them to keep up with the elite teams in the league.

However, it's worth noting that the Mavericks ranked fifth in the Western Conference last season. While they made the Finals, there are some improvements they could make this coming season. Fortunately, they have momentum on their side and could use it to their advantage when the 2024-25 season commences.
