"Kyrie & Klay gonna build a brick mansion" - NBA fans unconvinced over Klay Thompson's rumored interest to join Luka Doncic on Mavericks
As of now, there is no clear indicator of how Klay Thompson's future in Golden State will pan out. Interestingly, there have been reports on possible suitors for the four-time champion, and NBA insider Marc Stein has provided the latest scoop. According to him, the Mavericks have shown some interest in pairing Thompson alongside Luka Doncic next season.
In Golden State, the Warriors guard was viewed as an integral piece to the franchise's dynasty era. He brought in reliable shotmaking and defensive versatility that increased their chances of continuous success. However, the last few seasons have not been the same for his production on the court.
Stein shared his report on his latest "The Stein Line" podcast episode. It was also reshared on X by user NBACentral (@TheDunkCentral).
In response to the post, several NBA fans shared their reactions in the comments section.
"Kyrie and Klay going to build a brick mansion over there."
Meanwhile, X user Aidan LaPorta (@AidanLaPorta69) highlighted the need for an additional scorer to pick up the pace next to Luka Doncic.
"The Mavs need another guy who can step up and help Luka. Klay at his current age is not the guy to do that," the fan posted.
X user Wayne Lee (@WayneLee1078), on the other hand, questioned Klay Thompson's capabilities to reach the same caliber of player he was back in his prime days.
"Not sure if he could ever become "Klay" again. So any team taking him would be a gambling," the fan posted.
Additionally, X user NoDay8ut2Day (@NoDayBt2Day82) argued that the Warriors guard is not too far from the production being provided by Tim Hardaway Jr.
"No. Klay is now just as good at shooting 3's and playing defense as THJ is. Please don't. I thought they learned from past mistakes of signing guys that are way past their prime," the fan posted.
Moreover, X user Mike Johnson (@412MikeJohnson) envisioned Thompson finishing his career with Curry and Green. However, he pointed out the complicated nature of the new CBA.
"I'd still like to see him finish his career with Steph and Draymond, but the NBA made it clear that talent will be spread across the league in the new CBA. The West is already stacked, and is only going to continue to get better. If he leaves, I hope he goes to Orlando," the fan posted.
As of now, it remains to be seen if Thompson will be donning the same Warriors jersey next season or if he will be representing a different city.
Warriors coach addressed the future of Klay Thompson with the team
Warriors coach Steve Kerr made it clear that Klay Thompson is a highly valuable asset to the team and prefers that he remains with them for the foreseeable future, as per sports radio host Jim Rome's podcast.
"This is the way it works in the NBA and any professional sport," Kerr said. "There's just going to be difficult moments, uncomfortable moments, where money is involved, contracts, respect. ... What I do know is that Klay has been an integral part of everything around here. ... We want Klay back desperately; I want him back desperately."
Kerr acknowledged the complexities involved in the business side of the NBA. Hard conversations were bound to happen and now the team's front office is in the middle of it.
At the same time, Klay Thompson still looks to have some juice left in the tank, but contract negotiations will still need to be addressed.
