LA Lakers CEO Jeanie Buss' fiance Jay Mohr credits her presence for his recovery: "I was a drug addict"

Jeanie Buss has received quite a bit of criticism as the LA Lakers struggle to pull themselves into playoff contention in the absence of Anthony Davis. Fortunately for Buss, she's winning in her personal life thanks to her recently announced engagement to comedian Jay Mohr, whom she has dated since 2017.

The pair began dating after Buss split with longtime fiance Phil Jackson. Since then, they have continued to share heartfelt photos on social media together. The longtime actor and comedian was going through some struggles in his personal life when the two met, and he credits Buss with helping him get things together.

During a recent interview, he spoke about the pair's relationship over the past five years, and how Jeanie Buss has helped him grow as a person. As a self-admitted drug addict, Mohr says his soon-to-be wife has seen him at his worst and now gets to see him at his best. The way he sees things, he wasn't fully present for the entirety of their relationship.

"Yeah she was with me five years, I've been with her two. I was a drug addict, I was just out of my mind. I'm very lucky she was with me like at my absolute worst and like hung around and watched me get well. So it's like, now it's victory. Like that's victory you know?"

Jeanie Buss' previous relationship with Phil Jackson

Prior to beginning her relationship with Mohr in 2017, Jeanie Buss had been in an incredibly long relationship with Phil Jackson. The pair began dating in 1999 while Jackson was coaching the LA Lakers and in 2012 they got engaged on Christmas Day. Unfortunately for the Lakers 'Royal Couple', they split in 2016.

In 2016, the pair announced that they were splitting. Jackson headed to New York to work for the New York Knicks, while Buss' duties kept her in LA. At the time, the two released a joint statement about breaking off their long-term engagement, saying:

"With mutual love and respect, we have decided to end our engagement," they wrote in a joint statement. "With the nature of our professional obligations and the geographic distance between us, sustaining the relationship has been difficult. We have shared many wonderful moments through the years, and we expect to remain supportive of each other in the future."

Despite that, Buss credits her brother Jim for her breakup with Jackson. According to her, it was Jim who hired Mike D'Antoni as the team's head coach back in 2012 after Mike Brown was fired.

Prior to her relationship with Phil Jackson, Buss allegedly had quite a few flings. Hall of Famer Dennis Rodman once stated that Buss invited him out to get together for a few drinks, which led to the two dating for six months.
