LA Lakers trade rumors: NBA insider suggests trading for Josh Richardson and New York Knicks pair by parting with picks

NBA Insider Bobby Marks suggested that the LA Lakers should sign Josh Richardson for a 2023 second-round pick and Patrick Beverley.

The LA Lakers are currently contending for a spot in the play-in tournament, and with the trade deadline fast approaching, many are wondering what moves the team will make to improve their chances of winning a championship. General Manager Rob Pelinka has stated that the team is committed to surrounding superstar LeBron James with a roster that can compete for a title, but with limited salary cap space and draft picks, options may be limited.

Pelinka has made it clear that the Lakers will do everything in their power to make deals that can help LeBron win a championship, even if it means trading draft picks. However, if the team does not find an All-Star caliber player available on the trade market, they may opt for a smaller move that strengthens the roster for this season, at the cost of future cap flexibility and draft picks.

This brings them to the San Antonio Spurs’ Josh Richardson, who is having a solid NBA season. Bobby Marks believes the trade could help the LA Lakers in the event they are unable to sign an All-Star before the trade deadline.

Spurs center Jakob Poeltl has gained significant trade interest from teams such as the Raptors and Celtics, sources tell @ShamsCharania.

Josh Richardson and Doug McDermott are also expected to receive interest ahead of the deadline.

San Antonio Spurs in no hurry to move on Josh Richardson despite LA Lakers rumors

As the NBA trade deadline approaches, the San Antonio Spurs are reportedly looking to trade Josh Richardson, who has been a key member of the team since he was acquired from the Boston Celtics last season. Still, they will be in no rush and are expecting multiple offers in the coming time.

Gregg Popovich’s team is intent on tanking the season and only wants to compete next year. They have several other veterans to trade in the form of Doug McDermott and Jakob Poeltl, and have until now held out for a first-round pick. Chances are high that Richardson will be moved before the Feb. 9 trade deadline. Whether the Spurs' minimum asking price of a first-round pick is met remains to be same.

Sources confirm that Boston is acquiring Josh Richardson with their $11M trade exception. Because the salary for Richardson jumps to $11.6M in 2021/22, the trade will get finalized on Saturday. The Mavericks will create a $10.9M trade exception as part of the deal.

The LA Lakers are undoubtedly in need of reinforcements, something Rob Pelinka confirmed they are looking to make. While Josh Richardson might be a great fit, whether Patrick Beverley is used as an asset will be interesting to see.
