LeBron James missed a 3-pointer before Kessler secured the ball. The Jazz had a chance to win the game with eight seconds remaining.
Collin Sexton raced to the other end of the court before making a layup. The referee nullified the basket as the Jazz had called a timeout with 2.0 seconds left in the game. Sexton bobbled the ball following an after-timeout play and was blocked by three Lakers as time expired.
Anthony Davis led the Lakers with 33 points, 15 rebounds, two steals and one block. King James added 27 points, 14 assists, five rebounds and two blocks. Without Austin Reaves and D'Angelo Russell, the superstars dragged their team to victory.
Every Jazz starter reached double-digit scoring, led by Lauri Markkanen's 22 points. Collin Sexton, who could have made the winning basket, finished with 14 points, four assists and three rebounds.

LA Lakers vs Utah Jazz Game Summary
The LA Lakers began a four-game road trip with a matchup against the Utah Jazz on Sunday. Austin Reaves (pelvic), Cam Reddish (illness) and D’Angelo Russell (illness) were in street clothes for the game. Anthony Davis, though, had been cleared to play.
The Jazz went toe-to-toe with their visitors in the first quarter behind their starters and a bench boost from Johnny Juzang. John Collins and Walker Kessler combined for 11 points, four rebounds and one assist in the earlier going. Utah took a 27-26 lead after 12 minutes.
Anthony Davis, who had a slow start, finished the first half with 15 points, seven rebounds and one block. LeBron James added 13 points, nine assists and three rebounds. Max Christie came off the bench to add nine points to push LA to a 58-56 halftime lead.
Collins sustained his form to lead the Jazz with 12 first-half points. Lauri Markkanen, Collin Sexton, Kessler and Juzang helped Utah stay within striking distance.
The third quarter saw the Lakers and Jazz going back and forth. Anthony Davis had 16 points in the period, but the hosts stayed within range of the Lakers. LA won the quarter 28-25 and led 86-81 heading into the fourth quarter.
The seesaw battle continued until the final buzzer sounded. The LA Lakers escaped with a 105-104 victory after Collin Sexton failed to convert a shot late in the game.
