Lakers' Anthony Davis posts cryptic emoji message after near 2-year hiatus
Anthony Davis is not only back to his best on the basketball court, the LA Lakers star is also back on social media. After a near two-year hiatus, Davis has returned to Instagram and is now active on the popular social media app.
On Sunday, Davis shared a cryptic message on Instagram story that included a series of cheese wedge emojis, a minus sign and two faces with symbols on the mouth emojis.
It's not quite clear what Davis' post is in reference to, but it could be a comment surrounding his publicized return to social media. The cheese/cheddar emoji is sometimes a reference to cash or money. The red face with symbols over the mouth emoji could be swear words or a mode of frustration.
Davis was active on Instagaram before his lengthy break. The Chicago native's account has plenty of posts with pics of his early days with the Lakers, his parents, him interacting with celebrities and high profile athletes and some snaps of him showing off trendy outfits. There are even some images of a younger Davis in college when he was playing with the Kentucky Wildcats.
It's not the first social media platform that Anthony Davis returned to this week. Following the Lakers' 131-127 win over the Sacramento Kings on Saturday, the NBA star made a return to X (formerly known as Twitter) with a comment on teammate D'Angelo Russell's post.
"Real life ooter!!!!!!" Davis commented.
The Lakers center joined X in June 2010, which was before he was even drafted to the NBA. In his last X post in March, 2021, he went on to praise Golden State Warriors guard Steph Curry, calling him a "cheat code."
Davis has 6.8 million followers on Instagram and 2.1 million on X. It will be interesting to see if he remains active on social media as the NBA season progresses.
Former Laker Nick Young claims Anthony Davis is a better player than 2-time NBA champion Pau Gasol
Anthony Davis is off to an impressive start this season, with the talented center logging some big numbers over the first three games of the season. The Lakers star is receiving high praise from analysts and basketball fans.
On the "Gil's Arena" podcast with Gilbert Arenas, in a discussion about the top five big men in Lakers history, Nick Young, who played with the Lakers between 2013 to 2017, said that Davis is a better player than six-time All-Star and two-time NBA champion Paul Gasol.
Davis is in his 13th season in the league. He's a nine-time All-Star and has been named to the All-NBA First Team on four occasions. This season, he's averaging 34 points, 11 rebounds and 3.3 assists over three starts.
